I was checking out this site and the girl shows these great pictures of altered books she makes. It looks like she takes a reg. book that she doesn't want and makes it into a scrap book, by filling up all the pages college like with pictures of whatever.Anyone hear of this? wouldn't the book be to thick to close?

An altered book is a book that has been altered for use as something else. It can mean removing pages and using the cover only, or it can mean covering the pages with something else. Yes, they are often very thick, although I think that they cut out the extra pages to accout for the extra thickness of the pages they did use.
Usually these books are decorated with collages, artwork, pen and ink, even 3D stuff like charms, ribbons etc.
They can be used for all sorts of things but are usually made into some sort of ART. sometimes a book shaped box item.

Thanks for the info,yes cutting out some pages would work, why didn't I think of that?
Sometimes I worry about myself.
looked at your journal site, you have made some really nice things. Wish you would post more pictures, would like to see that owl you said you made.

Nancy Jo- check out this site for lots of inspiration for altered works. It takes a minute to load, but it is so worth it. http://www.art-e-zine.co.uk/
I love altered stuff (I've done books, playing cards, whatever) and look for lots of tidbits of life to use in that way (remember the paper napkins you bought and were trying to find a use for?)..

Thanks Kim, I just might have to find a book I can use and get started on this,I have so many things around here that should be put in something. The four grand daughters alone are always making me something that according to them is very very important.

OOOOOOO I love doing altered books! I have one that Babs has righ tnow and I am not sure if she added to it or not. I have done a couple of them on my own. What I think are fun to do for altered books, and how I was introduced to it is to take just blank books, or bound art books and craft the pages that way.
If I can find the photos I will post a few of the pages I have done...

Yea post a picture I want to see how you did yours. I just posted two more pictures on my blog, one is a STILL of the bulletin board, you have more time to look at it then when it zooms by on the slide show.

hereare a few. I put these in my own blank book
This first one is the welcome note for anyone who puts one in my book. The flowers on the LEft side are stuck to craft sticks, so it's a boquet if you will. They are the tags for people to use to tell me about their art, the theme and their name...
This one is themed Mother Earth. I used a few Goddess-y type pictures and fabric and beads and glitter and all sorts of things. My favorite part of it is the hair of the Goddess that I drew in the middle. All of the words of who She is...

I have more, but I have to find them....my mom did a really great one in my book but I am not sure if I took a picture of it. I don't have my book right now though, or I would take a picture.

Is that a blank photo album you used or a book? I love the pictures. I just have to make one of these.
You girls have to check out the site up above that Kim, carolinagirl, said to take a look at. Boy is that site full of ideas.
I wonder when you do these if you have one theme and stay with it or do you just go willy nellie and put in what you want to?
So many fun things things to do,getting bored is almost impossible.

I am so intrigued by this technique! I've heard of them but never really pursued learning what they were all about. Here is a link I found to some examples! I can't wait to get a book and get started - I'm thinking a "farmgirl/country living" one would be great - or maybe a fiber theme, or cooking, or....LOL. Time to head to the bargain bin at the store!
