This is a tip my Mother gave me recently to help me remember where I put things. I have so many journals and planners, note pads for all of my business needs, but I am forever losing things.
So, my Mom came up with a great idea for me that I wanted to share with all of you, cause I am sure you do the same things I do....lol

I don't know if you ever saw my before pics of my office studio and the work in progress is looking much better, but as you will see in a minute, it is still very overwhelming to find anything!

We are labeling all the containers and drawers, but that still does not solve the issue in my mind of where things are exactly when I need to get it for some reason.

Tip: Have a journal dedicated to "Where Did I Put That.....!"

I am putting little divider tabs on the pages in groups of 6 or so pages. They will be in alphabetical order and then on the 'A' page for example I will list all the things that start with the letter 'A' and where it is in my office studio!

I think she is really on to a great way to keep me sane!!!! LOL

Try it and let me know if it works for you. I do have a shelf on my desk for all my journals so I at least put them back in the right place and that is half the battle of my record keeping!

And, by all means share if you have a great way to remember where you put things so you can find them again!!!

One way I keep track of the "everyday" things that are often misplaced ... keys, glasses, wallet (most of this is for dh) ... is by having him say where he is setting his keys down out loud. By saying, "I am putting my keys on the kitchen counter," out loud, the information takes a different course through your brain and you are more likely to remember where they are.

sounds too easy to be true, but it works

One of the ways I remember things is to match them up with something where I have no choice but to remember them. For example. If I need to return a book to the library, I will put my keys on top of it. I put my shopping list in the note section of my smart phone. Since I always take my phone with me, I will always have it.

I am really learning from all these great tips. I thought a great way to help is to just do a whole house makeover and clean room by room and get rid of the things I don't use anymore.

I am donating to foster families and foster kids in the area. I have a ton of craft supplies that I will never use.

Jackie: I was going to say that. LOL. I would forget where I put the journal, what I wrote in the journal, and forget what I'm looking for.

Well, I found out that the foster community does not want 'left over' supplies. They only want new unopened so that the kids don't feel like they always get used stuff! That is understandable but at the same time I don't like what it will teach them. There is nothing wrong with thrift store shopping or buying at Goodwill etc...

I understand what you are saying Terri. I am now a creature of habit. If I put it back where I always keep it, I'll go right to it. I am becoming better at organizing my desk and products which is my biggest area of need. My DH is going to organize the garage and give me a place just for my shipping and supplies so they won't be pushed around anymore!

My dear father-in-law used to say that he would make a mental note but he had run out of paper! He was a gem and we miss him.

They say if you write something down, read it and say it out loud you will better remember it. If I did that my husband would think I have lost it simply because I am talking to myself. I wonder if people who talk to themselves have better memories than those who don't?

Talking to myself is NOTHING new either at home or in my office! If it works I say go for it!!!!
I will say that repeating something doesn't necessarily help me remember, but talking to myself about why I came into a room helps me remember why I'm there!!!

As for keys, put a hook by the door and hang your keys there every time. Also if you have a journal, write everything in it. Decide where you will put it, such as next to your bed, or in your purse. Then put your purse only in one place. If I can remember where I put my glasses, I'll have it made. (Lol)

Maryjean, Ask some different schools especially kindergarten teachers, they would probably love your supplies that you do not want anymore. they usually do not have the money to buy a bunch and do not care if they are donated new or not!!!
