Just love the spinning world and was wondering what types of spinning wheels you all have. Would love to see some pictures of them as well, and what are you all working on? what fibers/roving etc.
I'm am so enjoying this art and learning how to dye the fibers/and skeins of yarn. What a rewarding hobby.
Hope to hear from you who do this art.

I have a Kromski Minstrel and an antique Saxony wheel. Wish I could find someone to teach me also. We have a local spinning group, but they meet during the day, and I still work full time.

Hello there spinners! I have been spinning for a few years now. Maybe 5 or 6 years. I loose track of time. I pretty much taught myself to spin off the internet. Check out you tube! I did take a class on using the drop spindle, that helped out too. I have a Schacht lady bug spinning wheel. I love it. I enjoy the whole process, but it is a lot of work! I really like wearing the items I create from my sheeps wool. It is so warm!

Hey Ladies,
Well, I have a few wheels,Ashford Traditional and Traveller, and a few antique wheels, which are useable and fun to play with ... but not for spinning.
I love my Ashfords and hope to get the Ashford Elizabeth next year ...
Right now I am spinning some of my Shetland( Echo) fleece, and hope to knit and felt some slippers.
As for learning the art of spinning, for me it was not about a class or lessons it was about practice, practice ... the more you spin the better you will get. I first started with a drop spindle as well.
As Michele said there are a ton of videos to learn from, good luck!

My hubby and I made a drop spindle. It is fun as well. Yes your right...practice, practice is the key. I remember couple of years ago my hubby got me a spinning wheel for Christmas and that is what I was told...practice start and stop. Get use of peddling... utube has lots to show how on different wheels and how to with fibers. I raise angora rabbits and I spin the fibers off them, a little more challenging then sheep wool.
Ladies thanks for sharing, we learn so much from each other.

Michele,
Three ladies in my spinning group have the bug spinning wheel and they do love theirs as well. I also have a hitch hiker spinning wheel. I use this one when I go camping. I'll take some pictures of my three wheels to share with you ladies. Hope you post some pictures of your wheels. Love seeing the different kinds.

It is great to keep those first spun yarns around to admire and compare with what you spin now. I actually knitted my first spinnings into a headband. I used some of Debs bunny fiber in some headbands for gifts last year. My yarn is not perfect, but it makes me happy to use. It holds together even after ripping out a few times! :) I am working on a new pattern for felted slippers/clogs. Working on number 2 slipper, and the next challenge will be felting them. Will get some pics for you soon.

Teri,
Love your spinning wheel.
Michele, Would love to have a pattern of your felted slipper clog. Would you share the pattern with me? and would love to see yours when finish. How did you like the angora? Isn't it so ...soft. I just love the fibers all by itself or mixed in with other fibers.

I've been spinning since 1976 when my Grandma introduced me to her friend who spun. I soon bought a ashford wheel that was upgraded by a master wheel crafter.
I believe you just need to do it ! It will start getting clear after awhile. I mostly spin out of raw fleeces now as I find carding too time consuming. I also love roving. Do try all the fibers, they are wonderful. I love wool ! Especially when it gets cold in the fall, nothing seems better than dragging out my wheel and knitting needles. I used to weave a lot but find knitting with handspun more dimensional.

Enjoy it, just start you'll get the hang of it.

Good luck on restoring that spinning wheel Deb. I don't have any books for restoring. The pattern for the felted slipper/clogs is fiber trends AC-33 by Bev Galeskas. The directions look complicated, but it is very easy. You just have to keep track of what row you are on. I still have not felted them yet. Got to get my old top load machine hooked up to use that for felting. Maybe I will get my husband to help me do that today. Would be nice to be able to wear my slippers.

I have a Schacht Wheel that my husband bought me years ago.
I have really not used it much until the last year and a half.
I enjoy spinning wool, especially the long wools. Romney and Border Leicester being my favorite.
My husband did make me up some Tunis Roving and it isn't as easy to spin, but is getting easier.
There isn't a local guild in my area. Youtube videos have been very helpful. I have taken a class. There is a guild but it is about 45 minute drive, so I haven't made it over there yet.
I raise fiber sheep so spinning goes hand in hand :)
