Hello everyone,

We had a nice day. My dd came at 11:30 and took us out for a fun Italian meal. It was expensive and they would not allow us to pay any of the bill.
Then tonight we finally went to see Jersey Boys. We thought it was really good. Sad, but good.

Tomorrow we pick up the moving truck. Not looking forward to this next week. It is in the upper 90s and humid. It's crazy to move in July or August here.

Got a text from sis asking about probate and when I failed to answer right away I got another text cussing me out. I told her I could no longer tolerate her toxic behavior and to please not contact me again. She said "bite me". Among other things. Apparently her new money is doing nothing to improve her misery. I don't know how to explain it, but there is a feeling of a huge weight lifted when I finally manage to dump someone who drains me emotionally. I can not fix her so I have freed myself from her toxic behavior. I thought it would make me feel guilty but it has done the opposite.

Good night everyone. Hoping for good, restful, peaceful sleep for you all.

It's late at night and I can't sleep. I wrote about a situation that's bothering me in the Across the Fence forum. I think I'm going to find a new support group to attend. there's one about twenty miles from where I live--that's farther than the one I've been going to but it might be better for me. It's just that I'll miss the people who attend the group I've been going to for the past four years. So I feel sad and kind of worried. The other people will wonder why I left and I'm not sure I want to tell them why. Actually, it's doubtful that I'll run into any of them in my day to day life. But I don't want them to worry about me. I guess I need time to ponder my options. This has been the strangest year of my life--as soon as one problem is solved, another pops up.

Cindy, I do hope things work out for the best. That is a very scary situation.
Holly, Yes, dear son is counting his blessings. I ended up keeping the store opened and working until almost 8 last night, while he kept hauling more loads of stuff he bought at the auction. Bob ended up helping him also. He said he had 2 more loads and needs Bob's help, Bob said there were 4 more loads, plus after we left, son had to go back again and pick up a dresser. Good thing the auction was only a couple of miles away.
Today we took a ride and scouted out some more campgrounds. We finally found one we like and will be going there on Saturday. Now we need good weather. We packed a picnic lunch and ate at a park, but we did not stay long, we were getting eaten up alive from flies.
We finally got to have a fire in the fire pit tonight. No wind, and very nice out. It is usually too windy for a fire.
GG, I know you must be busy getting ready to move. Good thing you have B this time to help you.
Have a great evening,

Jan

Cindy, Thinking of you. I hope you get a break from the worries.

Jan, So excited to hear that you are ready to take that first trip! Sounds like ds hit the Mother Lode at the auction.

GG, my heart goes out to you, fellow packer and unpacker!

We had a slower day today. Enjoyed not working so darn hard. But, now both dh and I are up cruising the internet. Not being utterly exhausted has made it difficult to stay asleep. Crazy how our bodies work sometimes. Tomorrow, dd is coming out for a visit/work day. It has been almost three weeks since we have been together because her work schedule has been steady.

Wow, I am tired and wore out, but what a wonderful visit in Illinois. I spent Friday evening with my bestest best friend and my mother! I know Bestest is not a word, but you get the jest of it. :) Loretta has been my friend since school days. We have gone through it all together. I got to spend time with my Sis-in-law, Regina and 2 nephews. I worked on emptying the house and looking forward to closing on the 31st. The new buyer wanted the raised beds removed. Lucky for me! I brought home about 100 strawberry plants. So will be transplanting them. I just scooped up the dirt and all under them. I put them in a huge wooden box in the back of my truck, lined with plastic. Watered them good and covered the box with cardboard and finished loading the truck. I uncovered them when I got home and they look beautiful. Now if it will just stop raining so I can plant them. I also dug up a huge thyme plant that was in one of the beds. I don't really need it, however hated to just toss it out when I removed the beds.
I also got to meet Cindy as you all already know! What a pleasure that was. It is so nice to be able to put a face with a name. She went to Soulard's market with us. We shared ideas about produce. I had never heard of finger eggplant. I really miss Soulard's. I miss it more than anything in Illinois. I picked up some tomatoes to can. I am anxious to dehydrate some skins. A farmgal on another thread posted that she dehydrates them, grinds them and makes tomatoes paste from them. I was always hoping to meet Holly when her son lived in Jerseyville... so close to us in Illinois.

Marianne- I think when our bodies get older our sleep patterns run amuck. I wake up most mornings about 3am. Sometimes I fall back asleep, sometime I don't and go ahead and crawl out of bed. But these days I usually need a nap in the recliner about mid day.

GG- I was busy this weekend emptying out a shed from our Illinois home. We opted to move ourselves one load at a time rather than a u-haul, for our 400 mile move back here. We visit enough that the things we did not need immediately were left behind for trips when we visit. About once a month. Mostly seasonal items. We have a few things left on the wall at the house and some lumber that we will pick up when we close on the sale. Lumber is so darn expensive and we use it, that it will be brought with us for sure. Most of it is good wood that was removed from my parents home when it burned. And your sister...lol. How immature. They are in every family.

Jan-You are doing what DH dreams about. I think he thinks he is ready for motor home life. I am not quite there yet. And If we do, we too will sell our home and rent. I don't think owning a home is an American dream as it once was. We paid over $500 a month just to keep our Illinois home with no one living there. The taxes and insurance alone are almost $300 a month. If it were not for the animals, I would be in a rental, or a motor home. I often think of when I first married 37 years ago and we lived in a trailer on my in-laws farm. Cheap living for sure! I would go back to that now...lol.

Cindy- You don't seem like the type who wants any confrontation. But I would ask him for the address again. It could be that it was just a letter off and entirely a mistake. My granddaughters are not allowed to Google "Barbie Dolls" because of the porn that it brings up. I tried to get to craigslist once and must have put in .com or .net instead of .org and it went straight to porn. I think porn sites will grab onto those web addresses that can be mistyped for a well known site to get visitors by error.

Holly- I wished I had those polliwogs to put in my garden pond. Frogs never stay too long in our little pond. They move every time it rains. We do occasionally get frogs in there, but I have never seen any eggs.

Marie- I am so jealous of your green bean abundance. I bought some at the farmers market but mine are not quite ready. Zucchini, cukes, tomatoes and peas but no beans yet. :(
And yes we just let the flies die in there and dump them later. it is loaded with flies and plenty have died however it is so large that it doesn't look like much. Suppose to hold 20,000+. And the hairstyle, back in the day, they called that a "SHAG" haircut. Similar to the "mullet". Lol

Well, I had better get moving I have a long list of things to do. This month is a busy month, and next month too. Having the garden come ready only adds to the mix...lol.

Love reading all the posts this morning. Patty and Cindy looks like you two had a great time. One of these days I will have to go visit Mar. We are actually pretty close. I just have to get through school first.

GG, I think we all sympathize with the packing and moving. Sounds like B is at least getting his part done at least.

I too have issues with sleep. I wake up every hour to hour in a half. I can't remember the last time I slept through the night.

I got to sew the last two days. Made two really cute dresses. One just needs some flowers appliquéd to the top. I just pooped out and couldn't finish. I have some had sewing to do on my English garden dress. It isn't as romantic looking as it sounds. It has a dark green long sleeved top, dark brown plaid flannel as the skirting and underneath that sticking out from the bottom is a pretty linen with an English rose pattern. I know...just take a picture! I will.

I hope to hear about the job either today or tomorrow. I have spies I can call if I have to. I'm praying if I don't get it, I can apply for the other persons job. (I believe the other two interviewees work at the college already.)

The weather is really hot right now. Yesterday was decent with thunder and a bit of rain. But for the rest of the week it will be over 100. I'll be staying in I believe.

Well, time to get back to the books. Later all!!

GG good luck with the move. Don't over do it.

Jan, have fun on your maiden RV trip.

We hit 101 today. Bunny, I did not realize it got that hot way up there where you are. Bummer to have to put up with extreme heat and extreme cold. We put up with the heat but usually have fairly mild winters.

Gypsy, no word on the job yet. No matter what, I'm sure I will know something by Wednesday when I go back for my internship. I'm hoping that I'm not hearing anything because they are doing their due diligence before they notify me. I'm sure a background check takes a few days. There is another administrative assistant job opening. It is only part time, but if I don't hear by Wednesday, I will apply for that.

Gypsy, you mentioned some storage building with a bunch of antiques and things you were thinking of selling. Could you do that and maybe buy a little cottage in the city for retreats there? Either that or talk to B about selling the country house and finding something g similar but closer to town.

It does get very hot here. Thankfully we have good air conditioning. I just don't have to go out in it very often.

I learned from my spy at the college, they are trying to hire one of the ladies that already works there. Apparently there is an issue as to wether or not her department would let her go. They won't likely be able to fill her vacant position if she takes the other job.
There is still hope, but a slim chance.

How wonderful and great memories to meet each other and get a great picture besides! We need to find a central place for all of us to meet. We have tried that how many times now? Any ideas for next year?
Bunny, hope you hear something soon so you do not have to keep wondering. That makes for some long days.
GG, what a great handsome guy you have there. He definitely is a keeper. You will soon be settled back into your home, and getting things done there. I hope you and B can come up with the perfect area you both would be comfortable living.
Mar, Take time to smell the roses. They do not last that long!!! LOL!!! Hope you and DD had a great day!!!
Patty, You are so amazing with all the frugal things you come up with. Your mind must never stop coming up with ideas. My mom was like that, she could make anything out of anything.
Holly, hope you are doing okay. We have not heard from you for awhile.
It is cold today, it only got into the 50s today, and very windy. Jacket weather today, at least. That is okay, it will warm up by the weekend, just in time for us to leave. Got the RV all ready to go, just have to finish loading it. We are both excited to go, we have not been anywhere for a year. We will be gone from Saturday until Thursday.
Have a great evening,

Jan

It sure is quiet on here today, everyone must be busy. I went out for brunch with my sister today, then packed more stuff into the RV. Tomorrow we go grocery shopping for our camp outing.
It was cold this morning, 44 degrees, but it did warm up nicely to almost 70. Supposed to be nice now for the next week. We should have good weather for our vacation. I work Friday, then we leave on Saturday and come back on Thursday.
My computer is starting to act up, so I am going to post this before I lose it. Hope you all have a great evening,

Jan, I would love your summer temperatures. 44 degrees, I would have my window open at night.

Well, I did not get the job. The person that got it had a bachelors degree and teaching experience. I guess my teaching experience of teaching 10 years old to sew wasn't good enough. I dare them to give it a go and then tell me I don't have teaching experience.
Any way I applied for the last administrative assistant position available. It is only part time 20 hrs a week. But I'll just have to make it work. If I can get it, I can finish school and still have time to sew. If the worst happens with my stepfather, I have enough money to help my mom out. I won't be able to save much. I will lose some of my food stamps, and will probably have to pay something for my health insurance. I'm not sure what the poverty levels are. But I will be paying rent so that may change things.

It was hard to go back into the college today. People kept coming up and telling me how sorry they were I didn't get the job. It was a bit stressful. So of course my fibro acted up all day and I was in pain. But no one knows about it. I just smile and pretend everything is ok. I take an aleve every once in a while to help.
Not much else going on. Just finishing up with some homework tonight.

Hope you are all out in your gardens enjoying the summer weather!!

Today we got our first of a few truckloads of gravel. We spread it in the area that will be the run in shed for the horses. It went really quickly. Dh and I are very pleased with the way that it is turning out.

It has been very warm here. And I think it is supposed to continue for the rest of the week. We are still struggling to get weight on Sunny. I have changed his grain to a higher fat content. That should work.

I am pouring through books and magazines from the library enjoying the process of choosing a knitting project. It is such a fun part of the process.

How lucky I am to receive a box chock full of bulbs for our new garden. Thank you, Holly. I especially enjoyed seeing the photos and knowing that they have such a history. I have never had daffodils with the ruffly outer petals. I am very excited to have them. It was a delightful box to open.

yesterday we learned that one of my husband's mentors has fallen gravely ill. He will not survive. Cancer has attacked many organs: kidney, liver, stomach, pancreas, lungs. The deterioration is rapid. Dh is having a hard time not being able to speak with him (his breath has become labored). He was diagnosed only three weeks ago.

We finished playing in our first load of gravel. Got the roof cleaned off. Put gutters up on the run in shed and Dh mowed the lawn. It is so funny to see this man that I have been married to for so long get upset when he sees a new mole hill. He has researched the best method to rid our yard of these creatures. (Why does he not understand that there will always be more?) And is setting traps for them while wearing nitrile gloves so that there is no human scent and other such measures.

We are moving forward with MIL's abode. It looks like our only choice is to bring in a single wide manufactured home. We would qualify for a hardship permit due to her age and the care that she needs. The process is lengthy but we are moving along. so many roadblocks! We really hope to have her settled by Thanksgiving and we never thought it would take that long.

OK, I know I have been MIA quite a bit lately. The reason is that I haven't gotten into a routine here yet. But, I will try to keep up my end of the deal from now on.

Sunny is enjoying his new higher calorie food. Tahoe thinks it is baloney that she doesn't get grain, too. She remains WELL rounded. She is a survivor. Beyonce could have written a song about her.

Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

GG, I am sure you will be so happy when you are all done with your move. Fatigue can make anyone a bit on edge and say things they do not mean. Hope you are not running yourself down too much. Take lots of breaks.
Mar, You have been so busy lately, but knowing it will be well worth it when you are done. Glad the horses are doing well. Sounds like a great place for your MIL when it is all done. Thanksgiving will be here before you know it.
Bunny, so sorry you did not get the job, hopefully the part time one will be it for you. We do sleep with the window open. Last night it got down to 39 degrees and I was so warm, I turned on the window fan and almost froze Bob right out of bed!!!! I like it cool for sleeping.
Went grocery shopping today, then made homemade mini donuts and banana muffins to take with us. We only have 14 more weeks before our big trip down south.
Have a great evening,

Good evening everyone,

The internet and land line have been down. Someone in the next town over took out the phone line. He said it was too low.. I guess he must have been driving a construction vehicle or a log truck and took out the line. It is sporadically back up now.

I too wake up in the night. 2:30 seems to be a favorite time. I wonder what happens in my sleep cycle. I was speaking with my herb teacher and she said that each hour of the night corresponds to a part of the body. She has homeopathic remedies she takes for what ever hour she wakes up and it helps her get back to sleep more easily.

Bunny I too am sorry you were not hired for the job. It would be so nice if there were another employer in the area that was hiring then it would get you out of the place that has caused hurt over and over. I hope you get five sales this weekend. Colleges will start soon maybe you could market to that crowd.

Mar, I am glad the box arrived. I did not know how many bulbs to dig. If any one else needs bulbs let me know. They have multiplied in bunches here and the crowding does them no good. I am not sure how winter hardy bulbs do where the frost is not long lasting. Mar if you want more I can dig them. When you said you were going to plant them by the mailbox I thought maybe I had dug too many.

G I guess by the time you read this you will have the boxes unloaded from the rental van. hugs to you and the B to get through this stressful time.

Patty 400 miles seems like such a long way to go once a month. You have more fortitude than I do.

Cindy how is it back at work? are you in much pain?

The son who lived in Jerseyville tells me he is in Chicago now. The woman he was living with broke up with him. NOw he wanted to break up with her and planned to for more than six months but she broke it off with him and he called so upset. He was upset that she took control and that she cut him off from her purse strings. So, he has friends in Chicago he will stay with. He said if it does not work out there he will move back to Vermont. I have mixed feelings about that.

Jan I hope you have great weather and a great time camping. Roast a marshmallow for me.

Sweet dreams,

Holly

GG--it's amazing how much stuff we can accumulate. When I moved from an apartment to my house, we made about ten trips by truck and by car. My uncle used his truck to haul the big stuff and I hauled the rest in bits and pieces. Now I have this house and more stuff than ever. Goodwill is my friend.
Bunny--that's tough about the job. But you're persistent and talented and something else will open up.
Jan--sounds like you have good sleeping weather. It's been down into the 50's here at night. Every night for the past few weeks I hear this frog. I think he hangs out by a neighbor's swimming pool.
Marianne--sounds like the horses are doing well. I forgot, how big is your property? A single-wide for MIL is doable. Some of those homes are nicer than houses.
Holly--hope your phone and internet are working. I've been listening to a CD called Vibrational Sound Healing by Dr. Andrew Weil and Kimba Arem. It helps to calm my mind before sleep by altering your brainwaves. By listening to certain types of music, you can create new neural pathways in your brain.
Patty--how are things back in Ohio? The idea of no taxes on certain things makes me wish I could leave Illinois.
I'm back at work with no pain. Well, almost. Now my back hurts. I got out of shape from not having to do any lifting while I was off. I am working slower than I previously did. I would always get done early and leave early. Now I'm more laid back and easy-going. Just because I work with type-A people doesn't mean I have to be like them. I used to push myself to get as much done as possible before I crashed. Then I'd sleep a long time and get up and do it again. I've been getting green beans and Chinese red noodle beans from my garden. Have a few cherry tomatoes. Tomatoes are slow to ripen this year. I have lots of green ones. I can't wait for the peach tomatoes to ripen--they're the best-tasting tomato I've ever had. I did some serious weed-whacking yesterday and didn't wear eye protection. Now I have a slightly dark and swollen eye from debris hitting me.
I hear my frog serenading me. there's something strangely reassuring about it.

Good evening everyone,

Today was a lovely day here in the Green Mountains. Temperatures were in the low 70's, not much humidity and a lovely clear blue sky.

We worked on finishing a cow pen. We did not finish but another half day should do it. I have ordered a pair of channels to put in the gate so I can slide 2" X 8" boards between them for a gate. The channels are 3 feet long and shaped like a row of staples with a bottom on it so the boards do not fall out. I have them on the hay barn and between the stalls.

DsT has been home all week. I am not sure why. should I be worried that he got himself into some mess and needed to hide out at home for a while or should I be naively happy that he decided that being at home was a good time. He has been pleasant for the most part and today actually helped out on the fence.
We had a counseling session today. He came with his therapist and I was with my counselor. We are trying to figure out what his school program should look like this fall. He wants to attend high school for the socializing and athletics. He says he learns best when someone sits next to him while he does his work. He does not want to homeschool at home because the little boys make him crazy. He is eligible to take two college classes a year free through a state program. I found a program called Kroka Expeditions that has a fall program in Ecuador for three months. We could scrape together the money so he could go and then he would be back in time to play basketball. If he went on that then how far would he be behind when he returned in November, if he chose to attend high school when he returned. My counselor said she did not know how I lived with so much stress. I told her I worked very hard to remove stress from my life but this was causing a lot of stress in my life because he is almost 17 and I can not control his choices he needs to buy into whatever choice he makes and do the best with it. Telll me your opinions and experiences.

Sweet dreams,

Holly

I am heading for the shower, then off to bed. Just wanted to let you know that we will be camping, so you will not hear from me for a few days. The weather is supposed to be nice. All packed up and ready to leave in the morning. Will post when we get back.
Have a great evening,

Jan
