Got a fruit fly problem? Pour some basalmic vinegar in a small bowl (I used a clear pyres remekin (SP)). Put plastic wrap tightly over the top and poke holes in it. Place near fruit fly infestation. It will attract and kill fruit flies. I don't know if apple cider vinegar will work. I imagine it would. Probably would not use white vinegar. Too distilled.

I have found that red wine works extremely well, too. And, I have also used apple cider vinegar with good results. I add one drop of dishwashing liquid to the vinegar so that it breaks the surface tension of the vinegar. So, when the flies touch it, they usually will drown. Also, use your vacuum! After the flies are attracted to the general area of your trap, use the crevice tool on your vacuum to suck them up. It is the fastest and easiest way to go. :0)

| We put apple cider vinegar in a glass and tape an inverted paper cone over the top. They get drawn in by the smell and then can't get out. You'll be amazed at how many you catch. |

Yes ACV and dish soap in a mason jar works for me too and very quickly I might add.

Gadzooks!! I'm glad y'all posted this!! Mine are starting (hooray warm Texas springs... oh well) and they are making ALL of us nuts! I can't seem to find the source of them!
I will try the vinegar thing tonight with a trusty Mason Jar and cone.

| I also live in Texas and have been battling them. I use the ACV and did not know to add dish soap, will try that to, I use small ramekins also and cover with saran wrap, they go in but cant get out. This has worked good. I will have to try the mason jar also. thanks!! Farmgirl #946 Linda |

I have always used the apple cider vinegar and dish soap with great success! I have never heard of putting saran wrap on top as they die and I just toss it when it gets too many in there.

Jean, As far as I know this only has worked for the fruit flies. I still resort to fly strips and a swatter for house flies.
