For all the new girls coming in, I thought this might be helpful so all will know about ATC's.
Artist Trading Cards (ATC) are small works of art. They are 2 1/2 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches long. You may use scrapbook paper and glue it onto a sturdy card board or card stock backing. You can also use regular playing cards as a backing.
Usually ATC's will have a theme and you create your work of art according to the theme. You may use whatever you choose to create your card, however, just sticking a sticker on the card and calling it an ATC is not the idea behind an ATC.
You can use brads, chipboard stickers, craft paper, scrapbook papers, paper doilies, ribbon, rhinestones, etc to decorate your card.
On the back you need to include your name, your user name for Mary Jane Farm, the date, the name of the swap, and the number of the card. Example: If you make 10, you would number them as, 1 of 10,2 of 10, etc. Each swap will be different as to the number of cards you will make and the theme of the swap. The best way to know what ATC's are is to join a swap, make yours and receive the others. We have seen that sending all the cards to one person and that person sorting them and mailing them back to each farmgirl, keeps the cost of postage way down. You will send 5 postage stamps to the person hosting if they choose to handle it that way. Just have fun.... Hope this helps.......Smiles

I sent in my cards yesterday. However I did not know anything about the ATC's. I was unaware we could things to the cards other than stickers or cutouts. Also, I did not number my cards nor put name etc. on the back. Would it be okay for me to send new cards before the deadline time? I hope so. Nancy #2301 |

Should all of the cards in the series be the same or different?

Thank you so much Beth for posting topic. I know when I first started doing ATCs Swaps it was a bit confusing until I received my first cards. The new Farm Girl's need not be intimidated. ATC swaps are fun and quite addictive! I've included part of a post that Nini did with the St Patrick's Day Swap. It basically says the same. *****************************************************************
Hi girls!
I've had an inquiry as to how the ATC swap works, and about ATC's (Artist Trading Cards) themselves, so I thought I'd better post here to clarify!
Basically, each participant makes an ATC for each person who signed up (so if 12 girls sign up, you'll make 12 cards - one for yourself and one for each of the other 11 girls).
Now - for the ATC's themselves... Very easy - and a LOT of fun!
ATC cards measure 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches in size, and usually their "base" is made out of cardstock or old playing cards. There are even ATC templates available at some craft stores or online, if you want to use those. One of the girls has even used clear acetate in the past - it was BEAUTIFUL!!! Very different! Basically, though, the cards are similar in size to baseball cards we used to collect as kids.
You will design your own Artist Trading Card however you like in the theme given - so for this swap, you'll create an ATC in a St. Patrick's Day theme. How you decorate your cards is completely up to you... you can use whatever you want - paint, markers, ink, fabric, decorative papers, lace, pictures, buttons, ribbon, fibers - anything really; these are just some suggestions. And your ATCs should be the same for each girl so we all have the same unique collection at the end of the swap! If you visit any of the past MJF ATC posts, you'll get a good idea of what some girls have done in the past. The main thing is that it's YOUR design and an expression of YOUR inner artist! :) Just have fun, let your imagination run wild and be creative! :)
On the back of the card, you'll write down the following information:
*The title of your card (for example, it might be, "Erin Go Bragh," or "Luck O' the Irish" or whatever your card makes you think of - that's your title!) *The name of the ATC swap (i.e. "Farmgirl St. Patrick's Day ATC Swap.") *The month and date of the swap (March 2011) *Your REAL name *Your city and state *Your farmgirl name/MJF screen name *Your farmgirl number (if applicable) *The number of the card your signing out of how many you made (for example, "#3 of 13" or "3/13") *You can also include your email address, if you want.
Some of the girls even have special ATC rubber stamps they use on the back of their cards and then just fill in the information!
Mail them out by the deadline, of course! I would caution you that it's always a good idea to at least wrap your ATC in a little bit of tissue paper so it's edges won't cut the envelope and fall out in the mail. Also, it's a good idea to use tissue if you're using any type of 3-D embellishment on your card to "pad" it, so to speak, so that the embellshments won't poke through the envelope and your beautiful ATC artwork won't be damaged.
I hope that helps clarify how it works a little better for everyone! I really hope, too, that you'll join in the fun. You will be amazed at all of the beautiful ATCs you'll receive. Some of us are just beginners, but those ATCs are just as beautiful and special and treasured as those that come from some of our more seasoned artists (and I DO mean ARTISTS!)... The main thing, though, is that they're made from our farmgirl hearts... now how can you go wrong with that? :)

The pictures ...included for each of the ATCs sent. http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=49363 were beautiful works of art, but after you receive them, do you scrapbook them? Make a wall collage? I am still a bit confused. I think we are supposed to just enjoy having them.
