Parking will be available in the municipal lot across the street ... look for balloons marking the parking lot and Bishop's Cottage.
"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, red wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming 'WOO HOO, what a ride!'"

I'm so excited! I am almost positive I will be there. Now I just need to wait and see if anyone in my chapter is planning to attend too so we can send a single payment and such.
What a wonderful thing that MaryJane is coming to Michigan!

I've signed up the Dandelion Chapter on another page, but thought I'd stop here as well, just to make sure we are counted. There will be five of us. I hope someone will direct me as to how to handle the money. Please email me directly if you would! Thanks, Karen

My visit to Michigan was everything I hoped for and more. I am blessed to be given the occasional opportunity to step briefly out of my life and into the lives of women who send me back to my farm with a suitcase full of memories--vivid snapshots of lives well-lived. So happy to share planet Earth with the women of Michigan!!! I will cherish forever the 19 women who attended my class on rag rug making/the 50 who joined me for lunch at the B&B where I was staying/the family who runs the B&B (over-the-top impressive…I think I’m in love!); the dinner (lovage soup supped with the hollow stalks of the lovage plant followed by homemade rosemary and lavender truffles so divine I saved several to bring home to Carol and Denali--made by a local food caterer whose business name is “Dinner with the Mrs.”) and the Gaudette family who hosted me…I KNOW I’m in love/and we mustn’t forget the little doggie rescued on our way for a tug boat ride during the blue hour--super vivid scenery! Lucky indeed am I.
Picture this: Tracey takes me to her backyard to see her rescued beehive, really a massive tree-trunk, held up by 2 fence poles, plopped in the middle of one of her flower beds. With her own brood in tow (4 ADORABLE children), she walks right up to it and soon she’s surrounded by bees that obviously TRUST her good soul as she comments, “I think getting the tree here resulted in only one bee sting. They are the most peaceful of bees.” (The back story is: someone was cutting down a large tree when they noticed it was full of honey bees so they called the island’s only beekeeper. Tracey Gaudette to the rescue!
Picture this: It’s still very early in the morning. The sun isn’t up yet. I’ve just had an early morning bath in a claw-foot bathtub that sits almost in my bedroom in a very old historical house (after a long, good night’s sleep) when I hear what I think is a tractor outside. “Nah, it must be some kind of lawn mower.” I look out my opened second-story window to find myself SMITTEN by a woman who is driving a cherried-out vintage FORD tractor (gray/red) onto the grass below my window. After she jumps off to inspect its location, I holler down, WOW, and she says “Good morning, I thought you’d like to use my tractor for photos today.” She runs a landscaping business and collects vintage heavy machinery. She proceeded to list them for me: backhoe, tug boat….
And the reason I went to Grosse Ile (pronounced gross eel), Michigan? Tracey won first place in our 2008 Christmas Tree decorating contest, all of her ornaments made, of course, from beeswax. Her business name? Island Gold. Indeed.
The weather was perfect for our outdoor class and luncheon but pouring rain when I left the following morning at 5 am. My hired driver proceeded to then entertain me with the stories of all the famous people he’s chauffeured around Michigan: Rachael Ray, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, CEOs who fly in on private jets, etc. Happy to be just me, but like I told my Michigan sisters, it isn’t about me, it’s about WE!!!!! Thank you Michigan. Thank you Tracey. My trip was perfect. I flew home so very CONTENT, knowing the likes of you Mitten Sisters exist out there in the world!
Proud Sister #1, MaryJane
P.S. Alice “Aeminasian” of Connecticut (Sister # 12), please note, in the one photo so far that Siobhan “clothedinscarlet” posted, http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=43281&whichpage=2, I’m wearing the GORGEOUS blouse you gave me when I met you and your farmgirl chapter members in NYC. And a button necklace made by our endlessly crafty "Rebekka Mae" of Idaho (Sister #40). (Her work appears regularly in our monthly sisterhood newsletter, MaryJane's Cluck.)

Dear MaryJane, you are so kind. Reading your post I had to pinch myself to be sure it was real. It was a wonderful day. It truly was a dream come true. When I woke the next day, I wondered if it had all been a lovely dream. The good news is that it was real, and that you are real. It's your very real and warm personality that made the day such a delight. You are such a pleasure to be with, such easy company. You have the gift of making everyone feel special and at ease. I have many photos to share, so many that I think I'll have to set up one of those "sites" so they can be accessed without overloading the forum. That will surely require my "Tech Support Team" a.k.a. my adorable (thank you Mary Jane!) children. I will try to post one photo now, of you and I standing in front of the Bishop's Cottage and the tractor you mentioned. I am wearing the very special Michigan Farmgirl's Apron that you so generously gifted us with, thank you! This apron will travel around our great state, linking us Michigan Farmgirls closer together, with a journal to document it's many adventures which began here on Grosse Ile, June 15, 2010, with you, on a most memorable day which I will always treasure. With much love, Tracey |

So wonderful! MaryJane is the epitome of Farmgirl. I kick myself for not going with Siobhan (clothedinscarlet). I surely won't let that happen again. I was in Pepin, WI with the farmgirls on the loose tour. Which was also pretty awesome.

Oh but Diane, wait until you see the awesome 2-page spread Carol designed yesterday of you "loose" farmgirls in Pepin. Nov/Dec issue coming up! Maybe if Wende does one of her LOOSE tours again, I'll try to make it.

BEAUTIFUL picture indeed! I wish I could have made it but my daughters graduation/open house kept me very busy on our little farm as well as puppies born just in time for the party and new baby calves soon following! Sounds like everyone had a wonderful time!!
