I just have to share this with you girls so you can all have the same mental image my husband has! This morning I spent a few hours planting my flower beds by the barn, I hauled a few loads of composted manure in, worked it all in well with my spade, tucked in all the plants I have been sneaking home when I have to run to town for parts,(have to make a few side trips you know!) Put mulch down on everything and thought how pretty everything looked. This afternoon as I was mowing the driveway, I look up at the barn and there standing in teh middle of my flowers is one of the bulls, now I am not about to chase a 2000 lb. bull on foot even if I know he is pretty gentle, so I kicked the lawn mower in high, stopped to open the pasture gate and put him in with my riding mower! All my husband can do is laugh and he did ask why I didn't get the 4-wheeler out, but I was to mad about all my hard work to think about that. I'm just glad the neighbors didn't drive by and see me chasing him with the lawn mower, they would really think I had lost my marbles. I'm going back to the green house tomorrow, right after we fix fence!
With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts. |

The image that comes to my mind is of Ferdinand, I believe he was a Walt disney creation. Maybe he just wanted to stop and smell the roses. And hey, if a riding mower does the job, then that's great.Hope he didn't damage your flowers too much. Cindy

Julie, I would have been mad too! It is funny but all that work. That's how I feel about my darn chickens. It's too much work to make our homes look nice and to have an animal get right in the middle of it is too much. I can just see you on that mower in high speep pursuit after that big ole bull.

Your story reminded me of when we came home for a Sunday outing and we found my husband holsten in our garden.
On this particular Sunday we were going to a famiy picnic - we were getting in our vehicle and I asked my husband if his dairy cow was out in the field. He said no but nothing would be able to get into our garden. Upon returning the first thing we saw was his holsten cow in our garden having a grand old time chomping away on the knee high corm. I just started crying - that week the cow found its way to the sell ring.
We retired 10 years ago from ranching. We live on 10 acres, so the only thing that can get into our garden now is once in a while a chicken finds it way in.
You gatta love the country life, nothing like it!!!!

I love this story. Our cows have gotten into my flowers so many times. At one point I got disgusted with trying to grow real flowers and put some plastic daisies out in a pot. Looked out a few days later and there was a calf standing in the yard with them in his mouth. All I could do was laugh. Good luck with your new plantings.
