It has been suggested that I start a book club for farmgirls interested in reading (or re-reading) the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I hope lots of you will join us!

Here is a rough plan.....we will read one book a month starting with Little House in the Big Woods in June. I will come up with a list of projects we can do to go along with each book.

If you are one of those farmgirls who is unable to go on the Farmgirls on the Loose Little House trip, then this is the next best thing!!

Please reply below to join us, or send me a message if you have any questions.

Amy, would it be okay if we just participate in the discussion if we don't have time to do the projects? I would love to participate!

Count me in! I loved these books as a girl. I would read them every summer when I went to my grandparents' farm in Minnesota. It would be great to re-read them as an adult.

I would love to join in on this too. I have 3 of the books and I have been reading this book with my granddaughter. She loves it. SO maybe we could both do the projects together. Sounds like fun. And getting closer to summer and fresh food this should be interesting.

This sounds like a lot of fun! I read Little House in the Big Woods, but that was a few years ago. It was such a fun book to read.

I am going to start making a list for the first book in a few days, but the things I can think of off the top of my head are making a corncob doll like Laura's doll Susan, hang drying herbs like Ma does in the attic, and making a rag doll like Mary's doll Nettie. I am open to suggestions from everyone too!

Amy I would also like to join in on this book club. Doing the projects along with the reading will be fun. Count me in. Is this the site that we will get all the post about what we are reading and crafting?

Count me and my daughter in. She is to young for the forum and discussions but would have a blast with the projects. We have used the Little House curriculum before in our Homeschool and she became as addicted as I am to the books.

Channah, Brenda, Julie and Melanie......thanks for joining us!

I was planning to post the project list for our first book, Little House in the Big Woods, on June 1st but that seems so far away! So I think I will post on May 15th and give us an extra two weeks for our first book. Be sure to subscribe to this topic so you can easily see when new members join us and when new projects are announced at the beginning of the month.

When you complete a project, please post here to let us know. Pictures would be great!

Mark May 15th on your calendar and get ready for some prairie girl fun!

Hi Ladies!
I am going on the Farmgirls on the Loose~ Prairie Pilgrimage in June for the Laura Ingalls Wilder road trip and I have already started reading the books aloud to my 3 kids! We are almost done with Farmer Boy. We are having so much fun reading them! We will be ahead of you as far as reading goes, but there is always room for projects and discussion! We are hoping to get them all read before we go on the tour! I love these books! It's been so much fun to read them again as an adult!

Thank you for the welcome. So when do we start reading or has it already started? From the other messages....I'm thinking we will read the books in order and then discuss the whole book or just a few chapters at a time? Sorry about all the questions. Hope every one has a beautiful evening.

You can start reading any time, and I will post the project ideas on May 15th. As people finish projects they can tell us about it here and hopefully post pictures if possible. Here's the thread with instructions on how to upload pictures:

http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6290

I have not figured out how to do the discussion part. Does anyone have any ideas or preferences? Maybe we could discuss a set number of chapters each week?

Amy, would love to do this! Count me in! Melanie, I also did the homeschool curriculum! My only 'disaster' was in recreating the rabbit stew, flavored with salt pork! Was not too tasty! Lol! My kids have never let me live that down!

Hi - I am a "newbie" here!! I love this web site and this forum. This particular thread really caught my attention......Sadly, I am not a big reader (but intend to change that!), but I've always loved the Little House books. Please sign me up - or let me know what I need to do in order to participate in this particular book club. Also - where can I find information about the actual Little House trip I've seen mentioned on this thread. THANKS!!
