Well, I'm trying to finish things I've started like, a one block wonder quilt for my son, quilt for my newest grandchild, T shirt quilt for a friend, and lots of mending for my large family. ; ) But I'm getting things together to make some costumes for my children and myself for a " Dicken's on the Square" party we were asked to go to in December. I've never done this before, so my daughter-n-law is helping us with our costumes. My concern is to have the right fabric. I have some patterns I found at garage sales, but I just don't know about what fabric is proper for that time. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I shall pass this way but once; any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

Sue,

I found some pictures at this link. These are Victorian fashions.

https://www.google.com/search?q=dickens+era+clothing&rlz=1T4GGHP_enUS530US531&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=kYQ6UubGD-m4yAGuiYGoCg&ved=0CC4QsAQ&biw=800&bih=462&dpr=1

This link has a list of the fabrics used in Victorian times.

http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php/38610-Victorian-fabrics

I want to see pictures when the outfits are completed.

Try everything once. The fun things try twice.

Marie,

What a beautiful site. Thank you so much for sharing this. I LOVE the clothes. Victorian England is one of my most favorite time periods. Ah, if only time travel was possible.

Maricelina and Judith,

thank you for the compliments. I have made costumes and, while I try to get the styling correct, I will use whatever fabric and available and affordable. Some of this fabric may be difficult to find or really uncomfortable to wear in modern times. Do your best and have fund. I want to see pictures.

All I can say is WOWIE ZOWIE!!! Creative and crafty farmgirls!

I'm working on more aprons for Farmers Market but not working 10 hrs./6 days a week sewing like I have done in few years, can't do that any longer. And, unfortunately, my creative muse is suffering! I hope to see renewal soon!

Kristina, I love your bottle cap jewelry and magnets. Especially the crocheted necklaces. Very cute and I've never seen them before. :)
I just finished sewing my second quilt "Lucky Stars". I call it my "happy quilt" with the bright colors. 15 1/2 " blocks, 4blocks x 5 blocks. Supposed to be a lap size but more like twin! Used all 30's fabrics. I still have to do the final pressing. Then a quilting friend will quilt it for me when I get back from vacation. We are leaving tomorrow for a few days in Thunder Bay. Yay!

YOur quilt is beautiful. Wow! ONly you second one? good job!
I need to know if anyone has used the sock looms out there? I'm not much of a knitter, thought the sock loom would be easier to knit socks with. Any thoughts?

We are back from vacation, ladies! We had a wonderful time and saw so many beautiful things! Besides lots of hiking (didn't know what I was getting into) we visited several waterfalls and historical museums. Thank you all for your encouraging words on my happy quilt! My sister wants me to do a baby quilt for her first grand child due in Dec. I think I can handle that now. Kathryn, I thought of you when we stopped at the Blue Point Amethyst mine to look for gems. I found a few small pieces that I will try to wire wrap for my DD and 5 DGDs for Christmas. Have never wire wrapped before. We brought home a bucket of amethyst. Can't wait to see what they look like when washed. We also picked up thompsonite along Lake Superior shore. DH bought me a ring and earrings for our 40th Annv. and my birthday. The owner of the rock shop just "gave" me a piece of thompsonite as an annv. gift. What a sweet man! and told us where to find it on the shore. I also picked up a kit to make a long needle pine basket. I have made napkin rings with the short needles. This should be fun. Well, I talked your ears off. Off to make a pineapple upside down cake. Yum!

We bought these used dining chairs 19 years ago to go in our house after our house fire in July 1994. They are very well made, having fabric covers on the padded seats. Over the years the fabric has gotten yukky looking and needing recovered. It's actually been several years ago that I purchased fabric to recover them with, but never got the job done.
Today, FINALLY, the job is done! YAY! And the result is amazing!!!! Just in time for upcoming holidays and guests!

By the way: My hubby made the table!!

Love the chairs (and table) CJ. I have all wooden ones, and making seat covers for them has been on my list of to-do's. You are inspiring.

Marcy-
Referring back to the stunning pictures of your fairy doors, this idea almost combines it with your decoupage birdhouses. Would you consider or have you done a birdhouse fairy door? I could see something sweet with a goldfinch, chickadee, cardinal, robin and maybe a wren. Who cares that hardly any of the birds actually use a birdhouse - we're going for cute here, not realism!

So many people enjoy bird watching and feeding the birds, I imagine such a fairy door could be a fast seller. I'd like to commission two if you decide to make them.

The charm you pull out of that clay is amazing - the expressions on faces and happy details are true talent. I am delighted to have a few of these pretty pieces to display!
