Ah, but Junior was cute! And if it'll make you feel better, why don't you and I take a stroll down to the pond and feed the ducks for a minute? I'd love to have your company. Anyone else want to take a stroll, then regroup back on the porch?

Julie, you've got a right nice place here! Your porch is so spacious and I love that pond! Getting together with all you farmgirls is great.

Elizabeth, I got your email and returned a reply. Where do you go hunting and what game? DH is going elk hunting mid-November down in south western CO. Last year was his first time in eons that he was able to go and we've been enjoying the meat all year. Hopefully he can repeat things this year!

Cindy- Yes I normally make my own sauce. It's not so much a recipe as a taste test until it tastes right.

I usually put in carrots, celary, onions, browned hamburger, tomato sauce, onion powder or dried onions, garlic powder, celary seeds, Italian Seasoning, salt and pepper. The carrots give a little bit of sweetness (some recipes call for sugar!!) and they also absorb a bit of the meat flavor and act as a meat extender.

Thanks Alee,
23 years ago I made spagetti sause and put carrots in the sause because 1.) I love them and 2.) my garden was overflowing with them, My daughter took one look at her plate and said since when !!!
and was upset that I ruined supper for her. We are still laughing about it today and now I even put carrots in my chili. oh yahhhh!

Thanks for your recipe !!

The pond is gorgeous. Something about water just changes me inside. I could stare at water all day long.

Cindy- I put carrots in just about everything. It was something my mom did when I was growing up. It was always a shock to go elsewhere and not see carrot bits in chili, spaghetti and such! LOL

It never fails to amaze me how many similaritites all us country girls have. I put carrots and zucchini in just about anything...even cakes and muffins.

Thats cute Alle "great minds"

Corrine If I remember right the zucchini is suppose to help with moisture and carrots help with texture, what matters most is taste.
If it dosn't taste good no one will touch them.

Its amazing there are no mosquitos out here on the porch!
Have a great day girls!

I didn't realize till now that the mosquitos aren't out...strange. Must be the citronella candles and all the good conversation. Sure makes it more pleasant to visit, doesn't it? I hope we can do this often. There's nothing like a good girl friend, is there?

I am not sure we got to the end of the last story. I am making Mexican Soup for tonight so I can bring that and it should warm us up. And some spiced cider. It is kind on chilly even on my end of the porch.

There used to be a fish restaurant that had a big porch all the way around it. It had mosquito netting that dropped down from under the eaves and fell to the floor level and also the option of a very heavy clear plastic sheet that rolled up under the eaves but could be dropped down too if needed. Maybe that would work on this porch.

Never thought of using heavy plastic sheeting to ward off those pesky ankle biters. They come up from under our porch in KY...lots of ivy under there that seem to be loved by them because it stays so moist down there. Brrrr. It sure is getting chilly our. I think I'd better get home...this flannel shirt just isn't warm enough. Today has been so much fun!!!

When ya get home pull out the quilt, there is nothing like sleeping under a blanket of love !! Has any one else ever heard that it was bad luck to make a quilt and not have any one sleep under it ?

If we don't have more stories to tell maybe we could fill in with "old wives tales ?? Any one else have one ??

I really is good and so easy it should not be told how it is made. I would like to tell you it is home canned veggies and good suff but it is not.
1 1/2 lbs ground meat
1 onion
1 clove garlic

Brown the meat, garlic, and onion in a little bit of olive oil then add
1 packet taco seasoning
1 packet of dry ranch dressing mix
1 can chicken broth
2 cans Rotel tomatoes
1 can black beans
1 can red kidney beans
1 can pinto beans
1 can navy beans
1 can hominy
2 Rotel cans of water.
Cook for 40 minutes more and it is done.
You can play with the recipe and make it your own. It can be mild or hotter if you want by changing the level of heat in the tomatoes and the taco mix.

It is good on a cold night. Of course, I also like those chicken and dumplins too.

Ah, Ladies. Don't you know? With all this rain we're having, there are no mosquitos! Sorry about all this wet -- but I'll have Randy move the rockers a little closer to the center. I do so love the rain on this tin roof, though. Here's some more quilts. Anybody want one! Ooh, Nancy. You picked the one that my Aunt Emily hand quilted from a top that belonged to my mama's great aunt. Don't you just love the way those colors in the double wedding ring faded to glorious pastels? Anybody need anything from inside before I sit back down?

Heaven, I'm in Heaven...a porch swing...a quilt....rain on a tin roof. Just close your eyes and go there. Smell that rain, isn't it great?

How did you know that my favorite quilt design is the double wedding ring? That flannel backing sure feels warm...guess I'll stay a bit longer. Someone throw another log on the fire and snuggle closer.

Sorry Girls, I had to go on home for awhile...there really is no end to the evils of Booger Hole...here's a true story involving myself:
One summer I was visiting family in Greenbriar, which borders the area known as Booger Hole. One night, me, my cousins and my Aunt were sittin on her front porch and we heard people talkin up the road. Now, if you live in West Virgina and you're a sittin on a porch it is an un-written rule that you wave to each and everybody that passes on a road. The noises we heard was weird cuz its a private road that leads back to a hollar. Her house is the only one back there. We thought it mighta been more cousins or an uncle coming from up the road. So we're hearing these voices and they're singin. Like an old Baptist Church song. Then we heard horses. Auntie told us kids to go on in the house as did she. The noises were coming closer. It was mid summer and all the windows were open. You could hear the hooves pounding on the dusty road. We waited and waited and no one ever went by.
That's all I got from Booger Hole, but I'd be more than happy to share some stories from Ohio when I get done canning apples....
