What a beautiful farm! Congrats Beth! I couldn't see the house because of the lovely pines...but your barn is to DIE for! And there is an old vintage truck lurking there too! I love those style of barns and silos! Eastern Kansas has a lot of the old barns with the overhang like that...that was a sign of affluence back in those times...Barns are so intriging! The old staircase in your home is wonderful! I can invision it being festooned with Holiday greenery! Thanks for sharing these Sher!

Oh, my goodness!! How awesome and beautiful. Barns and homes like that are very few and far between in our area and when you do find them, you would be paying 500,000.00 to 750,000.00. What a treasure!! I wish you all the best and lots of joy.

Blessings,

Missy

I sent 2 more pics so keep your eyes open. I'm not crazy about the wallpaper in the parlor, I think it will have to go. Does anyone have info on barns and silo's? I'm interested in findingout about the pattern on the silo. There aren't any like it in the community. Thanks for all the kind words and support. I feel so blessed!

Also, lookin for a good name, any ideas?

thank you again to hapyhrt/ Sher!

FYI the barn is fully operational for 40 head of dairy cows. Last used for horses though. We have neither so it will sit for a while. The upstairs does have a huge basketball court/ hay loft!

Oh Beth...This place of yours is a DREAM! I will look up your querie on barns and silos in some of my books on barns...I do know that hex signs were painted on barns by the Penn.Dutch farm communities for luck and to keep evil spirits away from their crops and animals...have never heard of the signs on silos...but I will research that! I am very curious too...your silo appears to have some kind of hex design on it...is the silo red brick? Barns were red because the old timers would mix animal blood with lindseed oil to paint with...hmmmmm.

If I keep a green bough in my heart, the singing bird will come.

Thanks Meadowlark for the great info! I have a feeling I will have a great deal of history to delve into from all the farm gals! As you can see the barn does need paint, but I don't think I'll use animal blood=-)

Well I'm off to the farm, enjoy your weekend y'all!

Beth - I am so happy for you. Your barn is almost exactly like the one on my grandpa's farm. The silo is situated exactly the same place, too. Grandpa's is a dairy barn with storage for hay in the haymow. The design on the silo is very Scandinavian, and that would make sense, my grandpa's is in Iowa and you are in Minnesota, both areas of many Norwegian and Swedish folks. I think whoever built the barn took great pride in having a wonderful place for the animals, and had a great sense of home.

I know you will love it as much as the former owners and the original builders. I wish for you only wonderful memories in this new place. It is great! Thank you for the pics - I wish I were there! It made my heart ache for the mid-west where I grew up.

Congratulations Beth and family!
What a find! We saw a lot of barns like yours on the way across Minnesota to visit our daughter in Wisconsin last month. The silo is a little different but I must agree it must be scandanavian built.
What joy you will have getting settled in and making it your own!

Thanks for all the sweet responses I have received. I spent the weekend putting everything in boxes. Though the kids would rather have spent the beautiful weekend outdoors, we have much to do before the big move on Saturday. I agree that the silo is most likely Scandinavian, the area is very Swedish, we even have sister cities in Sweden.
I will get some more photos up in the next week. Tonight I will begin moving some boxes in, hopefully I can glean some more info from the farmer I bought it from. I asked him to jot down what history he has on the place.

Kay- I loved reading your blog on the Amish Kentucky farm. It is facinating! You are quite a good writer!

Does anyone know a good resource on stained glass history , and upkeep?
