Does anyone have a good source for this? My friend and I are looking into making some goats milk soap from the extra goats milk she has and the recipe I've found that I think looks the best calls for that but I can't seem to find a good source to buy it.
I had gotten some when I ordered soap making supplies. I know Hoegger Goat Supply carries it. It is kind of pricey, and I used up my bottle, and have not ordered any since. I make a goat milk soap recipe using my cows cream, and it seems to be just fine without it. I know it does have alot of good qualities, the grapefruit seed extract. I think I had acutally gotten mine from Texas Natural. That is where I ordered lye from too.
Thank you for that information Michele! I know my friend gets most of her goat supplies from Hoegger so I'll see if she can check it out and decide if we want to use it or not. Would you mind posting the recipe you use for the soap?
Elizabeth - grapefruit seed extract is usually used to keep oils from going rancid. Many people think it is a natural preservative but it is not. Your soap will probably be just fine without it. If you want antibacterial properties in your soap you can add lavender essential oil or tea tree essential oil. You can use any soap recipe to make goat's milk soap. Just substitute the goat's milk for the water. Be sure to run your recipe through a reliable lye calculator.
you can also check any healthfood store...one brand that I use is Nutrobiotic GSE...looks like they have the capsules and the liquid concentrate in the bottle (what I use).... http://www.nutribiotic.com/

I used to use GSE to preserve my soaps until I starting reading that it's hard to prove purity, not to mention it can be expensive. I use rosemary oleoresin aka rosemary extract, it's sometimes listed as ROE. It's less expensive and you need less for your soap. I buy it from Snowdrift Farm but there are a lot of companies that sell it.
