Ok ladies here we go. This is where we can post. I encourage thoughts, comments, inspiration, you know anything farmgirl style :-D I also would like to encourage you all to get intimate (tee hee) with your partner as well as the group. I think we need the bonding as well. Weight is more than just an outside thing it is psychological and to me I see a weird relationship with food in the American culture. Thin thin heck no HEALTHY! I am currently 15-20lbs more than what I inspire to be but only about 5-10 over what is the best for me. So that can give you an idea. I hope that we can encourage and inspire eachother and give that strength for all of us to achieve personal goals. Enjoy food and life and be healthy!! Post away ladies!

What great words, Bridget! Yes! Let's focus on being HEALTHY and improving our self body image! I am really trying extra hard to get out and get moving. These past couple of days with my jog/walk I have really felt it in ever fiber of my being- every extra helping and every extra pound. I promised myself I am never ever going to let myself get this unhealthy again. I really want to be healthy and happy so I can keep up with Nora!

Yeah Bridget - I agree it is all about healthy. I have been struggling for more than 17 years with weight. Up until that time my 5'7 frame was 130 lbs after 4 children. Number 5 came along with gestational diabetes and the weight started. Then we delt with 2 very sick children and I ate my way through hospitals in the matter of a few years I was up to 180lbs. A lot of steriods ( due to asthma) has made the problem worse. It is nothing for the DR to shoot me up with 120mg just to keep me breathing. Now I am at 210 and I feel miserable.
Recently I decided to try and get healty. The weight hurts the asthma, fibromyalgia, and CFS so in order to have the health I need the weight MUST come off. I am so looking forward to working with a group of like minded women on this! I am trying to change a bad eating habit a week or add a good one on. Maybe by using baby steps this will work for me! Goal this week - Drink at least 8 oz of water a day. Remove white from my food - no white sugar, no white flour ( except organic ), ect.. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US

Drinking water is a huge help. Our bodies actually will hold on to water if we "starve" ourselves of water. It's one of those survival mode things. So if you are drinking enough water then you might have to go to the bathroom every 15 minutes for a day or two, but then your body will actually let the water stay in your system longer and you will actually revert to a less frequent bathroom schedule. :D
Check out this hydration calculator so you know how much you need to drink. If you are a certain amount heftier than your healthy weight you actually need to drink more than 8 glasses. http://nutrition.about.com/library/blwatercalculator.htm

It's back on the treadmill for me this week. I am still having problems with the ankle I sprained in January, but I am determined to get myself moving again. If for no other reason than to combat the exhaustion and pain I felt after building the chicken coop!I'll say it here, and only once- I am starting at 219, my highest weight ever. My goal? To be more conscious of what I am eating and getting down to a healthy weight for me, which has always been 165. I'm also counting points and drinking lots of water. This week's goal? Laying off of bad carbs. Wish me luck!

I think its important to start your day with water. Have it by you at night and drink some through out and drink some in the morning. Then make sure you're active through the day. It's so simple to be "lazy" and not walk alot. Hide your remote and get up to change the channel. Tote things up and down the stairs. Do housework because cleaning can be physical let me tell you! I have to walk my dog so I am doing that more. Do gardening work. Go to the store and if possible walk there or park away far away. Also something I think can help is declutter your life so you have priorities and focus. These are all things i'm trying to do.

Water is my main goal too- I am so bad about it. And getting out every morning and getting active. If I have to set my alarm at 3:00am to beat Nora up- so be it! I have felt AMAZING getting out in the morning and somewhere in the running/walking and being out before anyone else- I find a quite place in my head and heart that allows me to contemplate and it sets the right tone for my day.

Well, I start the day off with coffee, but then switch to water...and I work in an office from 1867 with 3 floors (and we use all three :))...so I at least get a work out all day long running up and down the steps to one office or another, to meet clients, the copier, etc...That grand staircase from the lobby to the 2nd floor is a killer in heels! My goal is (at first) 10 lbs. I seem to have done well this past week, but for whatever reason, the scale changes daily--it kindof bothers me--on day I'm 138 the next morning I'm 140. How do you gain 3 lbs overnite?
I got some of the crystal light flavor packets for water because while I'll drink one bottle of plain ole water, I won't drink anymore...the white grape is yummy, and it will make me drink a lot more. Aside from my Mary Jane's meals for lunch, I also bought my favorite Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash Ravioli, so I'm set for the week for lunches. Tomorrow night though, I may have to cheat a bit, as my relatives are coming in from Atlanta and I'm making chicken enchiladas--I'll use 2% shredded cheese though!!!

I went for my jog this morning, drank my Kombucha tea and I have been guzzling the water too. I feel great! Very alert and vibrant- and I had to keep hiking my pants up while I was on my walk this morning. Now they are very stretchy and I have worn them a couple of times since I last washed them (no reason to wash after each jog!) so they might just be a bit out of shape. So I am going to wash them today- and if tomorrow I still have to keep hiking them up then that means I have been losing weight!
I am still scale-less so I am just going to have to measure progress by how lumpy and bumpy my body is and which pairs of jeans fit! LOL
According to Mapquest I can jog for a little more than a quarter of a mile. It is a quarter of a mile at the nearest intersection and I can go maybe another half of a block. I know this is silly maybe- but each day I can jog a few more steps and I love it. By the end of my quarter mile I am so out of breath, though. I am hoping I get some sort of breakthrough one of these days and I can just keep jogging further and further.
In my hometown that I am going to be living in this summer there is a great loop that is about 4 miles long. I am really hoping that by the time I move in a month and a half- I will be able to complete the whole thing in less than an hour which means I would need to be able to slow jog the whole way.
Today I am going to try to work in my Namaste Yoga and Shimmy workouts to stretch my muscles. Tomorrow I am going to focus on breathing and strain to get even further down the road before I have to slow to a walk.

You know what Alee that doesn't matter about the scale. Honestly just see about inches and your body. Maybe we should measure our body parts etc or to start the "problem area" hehe. I'd say mine is my waist and hips (or hm well too much of hips) hehe. I think I shall do a LONG walk today. You're inspiring me Alee :-D Where's the other girlies?!

Hey Ladies --- Alee you guys are inspring me. Now I need some advice.
i have already encountered my typical weekday problem. I walk through the door at work and have emails, voice messages and emergency projects to work on IMMEDIATLY. The next thing you know it is lunch time and NO WATER - NO MOVING FROM THE DESK! Typically this is a daily occurance. You add in the 12 hour days ( Yes 12 x 5 I am back to full time here) that leaves very little time for exercise. So it is almost 1:00 and I am going to walk downstairs get a drink of water, gobble down my ORGANIC HEALTHY LUNCH and get back to work. I try and check in here for a brain break

OK.... Here I am... I agree. I read a book recently called the "bodies many cries for water".. talking about the ultamate goal of drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces of the stuff.... So.... Start chugging..... I started a raw food fast.... (sort of a mini detox).. there are some great recipes for it in Carol Alts books..... then I will jump to Jordan Rubins (medeterrainian diet using raw milk & Grass feed beef), I dont eat alot of animal prodcuts..., but every now and again I like to..... So if anyone else is doing this...anyway.. thanks again for everything!!!

Started off with a lovely bowl of oatmeal with a little sprinkle of organic sugar, ate a sandwich for lunch on whole wheat bread (with no high-fructose corn syrup added:), and right now I am having a little snack of an 8 oz. Green Goddess smoothie. So far I have had about 60 ounces of water and have about 50 to go. I walked for 20 minutes before my foot started to hurt. I'm up 5 minutes from 2 weeks ago though! YAY!! I love this thread!

Hi Tamara!
It sounds like you need to bring a water bottle with you to work. Try a Klean Kanteen. They are awesome and no nasty plastic to worry about. I know that if I have water in front of me I am much more likely to sip on it. Also there are some great stretches that you can do at your desk I will have to Google them.
I used to be the queen of finding ways not to budge. And in response my butt has gotten quite a bit of extra padding on it! (to make me more comfy of course) So I have decided to set my alarm an hour earlier in the morning so I can go for my run. It's hard. I hate getting out of bed in the morning. Especially when I am tired and Nora has run me ragged all day. Plus I know how hard it is when you are in the work environment and working overtime- been there many times. But I do find that after my jog/walk I have LOADS more energy through the rest of the day and I have less of that evening slump feeling. Even walking around the block a few times in the morning will help!

I forgot my organic yogurt smoothie for breakfast, so I had 3 cups of black coffee and I didn't do so well at lunch--went to the grocery for my relatives visit tonight and went through the drive through at Wendys to get a chili and cesar side salad.
There's always tomorrow :)

Tamara can you take water with you. Take a huge nalgene bottle pack it with ice so it keeps it cold through the day also don't gobble your meal. Can you eat half of it and enjoy it then eat half later on? Good for you for the organic healthy lunch. BUT ENJOY IT! Taste each bite!!!

Great job in jump starting! We are usually dehydrated without knowing it. Aches and pains and feelings can be caused by it. Also water fills you up. They say drink a glass when you wake up, throughout the midmorning then drink a glass before lunch and then after then before dinner and at night and you have lots before you know it!

I love Leslie's tapes....for all of you that like to walk and can't if it's icky weather or feel "funny" walking outside in workout clothes or are self conscience (I get that way) look on amazon for some used or cheap copies. I have the one that has 1 mile 2 or 3 so you work your way up!
