Hi all! I took my mom on the 8th Annual Nebraska Shop Hop Saturday. It was the first time for us.

We got a tote bag from one of the local quilt shops last month which contained a map, a booklet with a location and description of each of the 40 quilt shops in the state of Nebraska, a "punch card," and info about restaurants and Bed & Breakfasts in each participating town.

The idea is to go to as many shops as you can in an eight day period and have your card stamped at each one. Depending on the number of shops you visit, your card is put in a drawing for various prizes. One of the prizes is a new Bernina Sewing machine.

We only had one day and we both have Berninas already so we just used it as an opportunity to spend time together and to visit quilt shops we'd never been to before. We had the best time!

All of the shops had their "skinny bolt" fabric at thirty percent off. Many had sales on felted wool for penny rugs. We got grab bags with ten fat quarters for $5 and quilt, pennyrug, and craft patterns for a dollar or less. We even found one shop within a shop which sells nothing but vintage silk ribbons, laces, and fabrics. Beautiful stuff!

We loved visiting the wonderful small towns like West Point and Dodge. Many times, in resourceful quilter fashion, the shops we tucked into unexpected places, like the basement of a grocery store or the vault of an old bank which is now a restaurant.

Does anyone elses' state have a shop hop? I would love to hear about your adventures.

Lucinda

When we were young, there were moments of such perfectly crystallized happiness that we stood stock still and silently promised ourselves that we would remember them always. And we did. --Holly J. Burkhalter , "Four Midwestern Sisters' Christmas Book"

Wow Lucinda..that sounds like so much fun!!! I would love to participate in something like that!! Heck, I would love the list and map of quilt shops!!
I know what you mean about them being tucked into funny little places. There are two quilt shops in the town just south of us....15 miles...and one is in a very noticible place..the other is only a block away, but in the back of a diving shop!!! (Diving..in UTAH!!) so if you didn't know it was there you would never find it! I learned about it from the other quilt shop in town!! Sounds like you found great deals too!

We have our Shop Hop in late June around here. My favorite quilt fhop (a really huge one )closed this last month so i will be hopping to find a new favortie shop.
Our quilt shops get together ahead of time and pick a quilt pattern and three bolts of fabric, then they all give you a differnt pattern and a bit of one of the fabrics, so you end up making a sampler quilt, one block from each shop you visit. It is really fun!

I've never done a penny rug, looks interesting though. Are they difficult? I love to embroider.
