I would like to host a zero waste swap. I've been inspired by our local provincial government, who banned plastic bag use on our island in July. I've been googling different things we can do to be zerowaste and some things that have come to my attention are plastic sandwhich bags, plastic cling wrap - we can use homemade sandwhich bags or beeswax wrap. Other ideas would be a re-usable shopping bag, homemade cotton pads, homemade menstrual cycle pads...the list goes on and on!

For this swap, you will need to either make or buy three zero-waste products for your partner. A lovely note to go along with it is always appreciated! Perhaps you can share some of your "green" journey with your partner. Sign-ups will go until January 15th, and mailing deadline will be February 1st. I hope you will join me!!

I got my kids to pick names out of a bag - so here are the partners:

Kelly - MaryJane
Dianna - Denise
Marilyn - Julie
Joyce - Cristy
Laurie - Karen

Please let me know if I missed anyone...and have fun swapping! Please post pictures so we can all get some new ideas for Zero Waste :)

I like the idea, but with the situation we are currently in, we are required to not leave home except absolute necessities - so I wouldn’t be able to get to the mail to mail a package at this point. If someone else would like to host one, please do so. We are expected to be this way in our little province for a considerable amount of time.

I'm not sure if anyone will be hosting one but I would keep my eye out here.

Thank You Marilyn for the amazing package you sent me. I love the fabric paper towels, they will get a lot of use. I always need shopping totes, hankies, potholders and dishcloths as well as the notepad and I cannot wait to plant the zinnias, they are one of my favorite flowers. The apron is you repurposed from blue jeans will be perfect for some of those heavy duty jobs I sometimes have. I love the comp book Marilyn. Norman Rockwell has always been a favorite of mine and it was fun to look through it to see some of his paintings. It will be a fun journal. This was a really fun swap, Thank You Joyce for hosting.

Awesome Denise! You are so welcome! It was a wonderful swap and I've learned quite a bit from the book you sent!! We love our straws here and I have a couple in the car that we will use when we go out. I just take them in after we are done, run soapy water and the straw brush through them and dry. They are ready to go again! My daughter laughs at me but she always looks for hers when it comes time to get a drink!Thank you again!:) BTW, the movie is so good. Either keep it or pass it on. I've watched mine several times now. I love it!

I received such a wonderful package from Dianna today! Wow, I will be using everything she sent right down to the box and tissue it all was wrapped so nicely in so absolutely no waste! I can't wait to watch that movie Dianna. The wax wraps make a nice addition to the few I had to try out and the produce bags and grocery bags will be so handy. Going grocery shopping today so they will all be put to good use. Now the silicone straws are new to me. I haven't used those before. Thanks so much for the goodies for my sweet tooth too! and for your lovely card. This has been a wonderful swap.
Thanks so much for hosting it Joyce.

Yay! It will probably take a little while, as our post is a little slow! And, sometimes it takes a while for it to clear customs...but hopefully soon :D

Marilyn I am so glad your package arrived and you can use all your goodies. Please don't worry about mailing a package. You need to get healed up before you can worry about things like that.

Omgosh Denise!!!
I love my box of zero waste/ sustainable items!! The cloth towels, I'd been eyeballing some for myself but I adore the sunflower ones, the sandwich bags, the zippered bag, the BOOK will help me so much and love the bees wax wraps! ( I have made quite a few but never get tired of using them!) Such a sweet note to boot! Thank you so so much! Your box will be mailed Thursday and should arrive just about the time you get back, ok?? You rock! Love the book too!!

Julie, somehow my right foot was injured last Friday. The only thing that I can remember is being attacked by Mr. Twister the cat. His teeth or claws made four puncture places on top of my foot. So long story short I have been hobbling around In side the house with my cane and crutches. I am hoping to be able to go to town on Friday or Saturday...I surely do hope I can walk without the pain by then. I must get a tire fixed a d go to mail your package as well as another swap. I am sorry to be so slow, but I will let you know when it is mailed.

Thank you Julie for all of the goodies you sent! Wow!
Left to right, back row: stainless steel straws with a cleaning brush.( I had considered ordering glass straws, but when I thought of the things I have broken...I said, " No way! " Stainless should be much better. Then the heavy duty bags...which I have never seen before! Heavy duty with a heavy duty zipper too. Thanks. Next you made napkins they are pretty and lined also!
The mesh bag is to put the soap pieces in.Lavender should help me sleep too.
The pretty card is in front of the sandwich bags.
You also sent a coconut/sunflower shampoo bar, which I can hardly wait to try out. A beeswax hand cream or lotion bar was also included. I love it. Have already used it twice. Then you sent me some of your flannel hankies. They are such cute prints.
Julie you really spoi!ed me!. Thank you so much.
