So in amongst my Iris' I have 2 odd looking plants coming up,,, an odd 'weed' I have never seen before.. so I thought I would (out of curiosity) let it grow a bit longer.. well today I looked in on it,, and I got to thinking,,, it might be a Poppy... DH took a photo and using a plant id app,, said it most likely is a Poppy...
BUT!
according to the App,,, it might be a Opium Poppy!! WHAT???

NO Way!!!!

It is probably a frofro ornamental type Poppy,,, but if it is an Opium Poppy,,, one of my neighbors has some explain to do!! LOL!
As soon as it blooms I'll post a photo.

Oh my! What a story. That is a beautiful flower. If you save seeds and have some to trade I would love some and I will see what poppies I will have to trade.

Well here is the update on the errant Poppy..
It is Not an Opium Poppy! whew!

I have never seen one like this..

there is another small one starting next to this one,, and I found yet another one about 20ft away, under the walnut tree!
Neither of my neighbors have flowers,,, but a 3rd neighbor,, Julia,, had a patch of regular red poppies by the fron of her driveway...

Now to go on-line and see what type this is..

Heather, here on the eastern side of the state,, farmers grow Legumes, hay, wheat etc.. toward the central part of the state are the Orchards,,, apples, cherries etc.. and in the Central/south part of the state they grow ground crops, like fruit & veggies...and,,, grapes (for Wine)..
But up in the North West side of the state,, like Sequim, they grow Lavender and Herbs.. We are such a diverse state,,,
As for me,, I just grow weeds!!! lololol!

Crazy people!!!! I know that all food comes from farms but around here it's just corn, soybeans, and wheat with the occasional alfalfa field for those with livestock. It would be so fun to travel to your side of the country and see fields of other things like fruit, veggies, and nuts. I'd love to go down south and see cotton and peanuts growing too.

Heather,, yep,, it is not uncommon to find MJ growing in fields,,, My Uncle has a combination Raisin(grapes), almonds and pistaschio farm.. they came across MJ growing off by the river(their farm backs up to the river)... Called law enforcement to have it removed... Lots of questions were asked... turns out they were not the only farm with MJ growing....

Grace - it's really sad, but people will go into farmers fields and plant stuff thinking no one will find it. We know of a farmer not to far from here that found a big hole in his corn field with a bunch of marijuana growing instead.

Judith,, that's funny...

Heather,, well that would explain why few farmers up here are growing less wheat! lol!

When I was in college My boyfriend and I visited his grandmother in Berkeley and she had opium poppies growing in her backyard. It was an old house in an old neighborhood and they had probably been there since before they were illegal.
