Harvested garlic scapes this morning off MJF garlic that I planted last fall. I enjoyed every moment being out in the sunshine and looking for the scapes. To add to the fun I wore one of my favorite vintage aprons and gathered the scapes into my garden tote. Gotta play a little when out in the garden. Annie was out there with me even though she has to be on a chain in the side yard. The recipe for pickled scapes calls for 2 lbs and I have less than 1/2 lb so will have to adjust the recipe.

I thought about MaryJane while I was harvesting the scapes. From her farm in Idaho to my raised bed in Texas this FarmGirl had a very good morning. Thanks MaryJane for having the most beautiful garlic. Can't you tell I get excited over garlic.

Dawn this is the first year I've had them. The recipe I used is from Preserving Italy Cookbook. After cleaning the scapes I cut them in 1 1/2" - 2" pieces and put into a pan of boiling vinegar & salt. When it came back to a boil - cook for 4-5 minutes. Drain on towel for 1 hr then put in jar and cover with EVOO. Keep in fridge up to month. Use in dishes for mild garlic taste.

I enjoy grilling garlic scapes. How do you ladies prepare yours?

Michelle some of my best times are out amongst my plants. I know you feel the same way about your farm.
