Some of you, especially from the South might recall these..

Drink covers...

I bought a set of 4 with a larger cover for the Pitcher...about 15+ years ago..
I used them and still do, to cover my Sweet tea and my lemonade drinks.. because if I didn't cover my glass the bugs would fly in and do the back stroke in my drink!
(purchased from Victoria Trading Company).

I then made a few more by buying similar Doilies and adding glass beads to the fringe to weigh the covers down on my glass.

Does anyone else still use these?

Sara,, I was just thinking.. I recall craft stores selling little crochet doilies, usually in a pack of 2,, you could cut a circle of Tulle netting (bridal veil type) the diameter of a glass, and fabric glue or hand stitch the netting to the underside of the doily, and then stitch on a few buttons or beads (for weight).. Just a thought..

Love, Love the cozies. I can make the drink covers but I don't crochet and at the moment not interested in learning. Any crocheters interested in making a doz cozies for me. No particular color - use up scrap yarn. I'm sure we can settle on a price we are both happy with - plus shipping.

Thanks for sharing!
What a great idea. Not only do we need something like this when we have a cool drink on our non-screened in porch, but also in the house to keep our cat from taking the occasional sip of our water or milk!

even easy peasy, use a pinking shear to cut out a circle of fabric (how cute red gingham would be).. and stitch on a few beads or buttons to weigh the glass cover down...

Hmm I have some left over Hawaii print fabric, I could make a set for my sister...

YES indeed!!! Wish I knew how to make them because I never ever see anything like those around here and you'd think they would fly off the shelves! The food covers do!!

Sara,
I think they are called glass cozies. They are call koozies if they are foam rubber can fit a beer or soda can and have a dumb funny saying on the side.

Grace, it is so funny how we are so alike!!! I used to have a set of those I used every. Single. Day. I had one that fit so gracefully over my iced tea pitcher. I bought a set as a newlywed so many years ago. They were in this cute little store that was in CT for decades. They were white cotton with the tatting on the outside edges, with beads hanging down, meant to look vintage. They lasted what seemed like forever. I was so disappointed when they finally wore out.

I thought about making some from doilies, too, but haven’t found any doilies for awhile in the vintage shops, which are now, sadly, closed. Maybe I should try to make some from scratch? Anyway, love the memory and the inspiration. XOXO

Grace after thinking about it the ones we had my mother crocheted. I also remember she crocheted the whatever they were called - I can't remember - the thingys that you slipped on the bottom of glasses so you didn't need coasters.

Linda, I live in Wood County. I am about an hour from Terrell. Congratulations on the sell of your house.

Grace, not sure if Hubby would use something with beads but I have a few manly ideas.

I have a whole set of the tall drink glasses in assorted pastels,, I also have the coffee mugs and cereal bowls.. most are in my trailers..

Nancy,, how about red gingham and just hem the edge and add a few glass beads to weight it down.

Yep, you can make or buy some 4"-6" doillies and stitch on some glass beads... 'sew' easy...

Grace -
I had never seen those before - they are wonderful. I'd like to make some out of some doilies I have.
I also remember those glasses that look like basket weave and pastel rims, I think.

Tumbleweed -
where in East Texas are you? I just sold a house in Lone Oak and now live in Terrell.

Grace that is too funny!
Hubby was just asking me if I could make him a crochet glass cover. I never seen them afore now. Of course the bugs in So Cal got nothin' on the bugmungus monsters here in East Texas. I will have to get some manly cotton yarn and get busy making some. I need more protein in my diet but not that kind.
