Well,,, more sewing time to make a few more masks...

just a bit of whimsy..

Unfortunately I can't machine embroider on the curved masks..

I have been making a few more masks for some people in our community...
I make both the rectangle masks and the curved masks.. and in the rectangle masks, I stitch in a casing pocket and insert a chennile pipe cleaner for over the bridge of the nose.

Keeping busy... hope I never run out of fabric! lol!

First the buttons, now monkeys. I love the innovations.

I was in the Bank last week, and the counter clerk had this holding her mask...

remember the "Barrel of Monkey" game? well she used one of the monkey pieces to keep the elastic off her ears..

I happen to have a couple,, I use them as plant pot deco hangers... I may have to steal one off the flower pot and use for my mask!!!

Hi Grace (and everyone) . . .
I am at 300+ masks now and have come up with some shortcuts and tips. I just got an order of pipe cleaners -- they work OK but I prefer using pieces of wire raided from hubby's shop. Bailing wire, etc. Cut a 6"piece and fold and crimp the edges so the wire doesn't tear the fabric. The wire holds it's shape better than the pipe cleaner. I make both the pleated and Olson style masks. I have found most people like the pleated ones best. My pattern has a pocket for an additional filter insert which is nice. I have embroidered on the curved Olson ones by doing the embroidery first and then cutting the piece out. I like the flat very narrow (1/8"?) elastic as it is softer on the ears and easily lays in the trough when you sew on the side binding strips. That way you don't have to do the pulling through the channel thing when the mask is done. I just tie the elastic ends loosely and leave them on the outside. That way the user can retie to fit and then pull the knot through the binding channel. Does any of this make sense? Keep making masks sisters . . . . I don't think this madness is over . . .

I actually have made both,, and like both equally.. so I wear which ever one matches my mood or outfit! lol!
That being said, hubby likes the curved one better.. but he is a boy, so he doesn't count! lolol!

I like it because it sits firml;y on your face and it is more stable than the other template. It also looks like it would be easier to breath through.
An individual preferance.

Cheers!!

At first I really liked that pattern but thinking about it later made me wonder if having a seam right infant of your nose and mouth is really a good idea....

Love the cat mouth idea! That would be really cute with some cat ears, too.

I think a cat mouth with whiskers or a Winnie the Pooh face. A rose in the teeth face. Oh, I could come up with tons of ideas but I don't embroider that well.

Grace, that is adorable! You could even make different colored lips so you can change your lipstick to match your outfit!

I like my mask better without the pipe cleaner and I like the round elastic better than the ˝ inch stuff; it's softer. I had to buy a hugh spool of it. PM me your address and I'll mail you some.

I ran out of pipe cleaners so the last 2 pair of masks I made do not have pipe cleaners in them.. ,, but next time I make a trip to Walmart, I will see if they have any pipe cleaners in the Craft & sewing section.. oh, and 1/4" elastic as well...

That looks great! Your community is very fortunate to have such a talented seamstress helping out. I like the addition of the pipe cleaner over the nose. I have found that if I keep my mask up high on my nose my sunglasses don't fog up. Keeping it there though is challenging and I do my best not to touch my face when adjusting it. The pipe cleaner solution would solve that problem.

Happy sewing & stay healthy!
