Posted - Oct 11 2019 : 11:35:16 AM Well, first I want to say,, to all our SO California farm girl sisters... stay safe.. Once again the Santa Ana Winds are creating havoc,, and the Fires once again are raging and destroying lands, homes and lives... SO Sad...
Hubby and I were suppose to be down there visiting our mothers,, but got detained to a few issues here, and so had planned to head out this Monday.. but... with all that is going on,, we have put our trip on hold,, several major Hi-ways are closed or impacted due to the fires.. I checked in with my sister and mom,, they could see the tops of the flames in the Canyon behind their home.. They have their 5th-wheel hooked up and ready just in case the winds change directions and they have to evac...
Over the past 2 decades,,, this area has become more vunerable to fires due to the strong winds and hot dry weather. So,, dear friends,, pray for all the Emergency personnel, fire fighters etc., to safely and quickly put these horrible fires out...
I do believe our climate is changing,, and not for the better... We need to do what we can to protect our resources and our Earth..
In the mean time please keep everyone wrapped in prayers.

Posted - Oct 13 2019 : 4:53:54 PM Grace, I hope your families stay safe. Prayers for all. It's just so devastating. I just don't know where there is anything left to burn in CA. There have been so many fires. It's heartbreaking to see the news and hear about the people that have lost their homes. So scary. Farmgirl 7774

Posted - Oct 13 2019 : 10:10:56 AM I too have been watching the devastating fires in southern California this past week. I feel so badly for all the people who lost their homes and now have to figure out how to start over. I think many residents are going to have to evaluate whether they should rebuild or possibly relocate to another area that is safer.. Fire season in California has become an awful and dangerous part of every year and it never seems to ease up. It is scary and terrorizing to everyone involved.

Posted - Oct 13 2019 : 07:03:42 AM The fires are so scary and I feel so sorry for those losing their homes. I feel very uneasy when it is really dry here as I live in the middle of hundreds of acres. The terror of fire must be awful for sure---I hope I never have to experience it. Thinking of those who are going through it several times a day. Also thinking of those in Syria and the horrible terror they are having.

Posted - Oct 11 2019 : 4:15:17 PM Yes the PG&E power outage has been problematic as well,, Most care facilities have a back-up generator,, and hopefully those facilities would be the first ones with power back on...
You would think that with all the horrible fires that have plagued California for the past 4-5 years, there wouldn't be anything left to burn,, but alas,,, fires do not discriminate... any thing in it's path gets destroyed...
Both of our moms are ok,,, DH 's mom said the whole area is laden with the smoke from the Porter Ranch blaze and thankfully where my mom & sister are,, the winds are blowing away from their neighborhood.
As much as I miss living in SO. Cal.,, I don't miss the Santa Ana winds and wicked fires....
California farm sisters... stay safe.

Posted - Oct 11 2019 : 1:19:10 PM I believe her rehab center is in Redding, the site of a large fire last year and that area is almost certainly affected by power outages, however hospitals have backup generators to keep their power going.

Posted - Oct 11 2019 : 11:55:58 AM Grace -- hoping for the best for your Mothers. It's a scary situation. Electric power was turned off to almost a million homes to try and avoid fires during the winds this week. Made for a lot of angry people but maybe it will help; time will tell. My daughter was evacuated from her home in Napa two years ago, spending over two weeks not knowing if she had a house or not. Climate change is a normal process but it is now being accelerated by humans. I hope and pray we can do something about it in time but too any people don't take the problem seriously.
