We took the plunge a about 4 years ago. We planned for a couple years and then my mom had her knees replaced with the notice of about 3 weeks. At that point we decided it was time. We had planned to go totally off grid, but at that point we new I would be the one taking care of my mom and off grid was not an option. We sold my moms house, we put our house up for sale. I quit work to take care of mom when she moved in with us after her knee replacement. We looked for homes for about 6 months and ended up buying the first one we looked at. It fit the bill. It was 2 houses close to one another on 5 acres. They needed lots of work to get it up and running. My husband is maintenance so this helped out. The first 6 months was rough. He stayed an hour away until our house sold, and he worked. It was rough for me maintaining the wood stove with no other heat, new sounds, new everything. When he finally sold our house and moved up a few months later we contacted our local farmers market to see what was needed at the market. They needed people baking bread. I fit that bill. So..its been 4 years now, and we have a great bread and goodies business and we make all our own soaps, balms, sprays all herbal products. We sell at a few state parks and it has been great. I wouldn't change anything for the world right now. We have a vegetable garden, herb gardens, hens for eggs, meat chickens, and many other things. Mom is doing well being up here on the mountain as well. She helps out a lot. She sells her dream catchers and other jewelry she makes.JUST DO IT.
theblisslodge.com is our website for all of our soaps etc.
