I saw this video on You Tube and was trying to find more info about this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf7b4GvbFOI

I was wondering as it has been some time that I have been away from the group but I was wondering were thre 1/2 hour shows made or was this for something else? I was really wanting to watch these, but not sure if anything happened after the promo was made. Any info would be great Thanks so much!

Mary Jane, I had no idea you had a U tube of our apron party and the quilt I made for you from your own fabrics. Such fun! Thanks

MaryJane, isn't it sad what the common denominator of pop culture has become? It's all down to struggling in the mud. Now don't get me wrong: I like mud just fine, and there is a certain honor to be found just generally in struggling, but what you've been asked to do by those producers is beyond the pale. Thanks for clinging to your integrity with all ten fingernails.

I'll watch the video you posted later today, after I pinch the tomatoes, thin out the Swiss chard (AGAIN? -- sheesh!), pull some more invasive @$#%*@! honeysuckle out of the trees, and get the "north 40" mowed. Sometimes, MaryJane (if I may be absolutely honest with you), sometimes this farmgirl business is less a condition of the heart and more a heart condition! ;)

Aphids on the heliotrope! Love it Virginia. You nailed it exactly.

I remember one proposed scene by a producer, "Okay, MaryJane, you're in a house in the Hamptons preparing an organic dinner for a large crowd and the lights go out ..."

One of the more serious proposals were episodes of people enrolling in my Pay Dirt Farm School with lots of drama: me whispering my doubts about them to the viewers, them clutzing out, getting in fights, etc.

The most recent was a glamping proposal like Hotel Impossible in which I'd have to scold and berate people who had opened up a B&B with a glamping theme and go over what they'd created pointing out everything wrong.

Drama and discord seem to be the name of the game.

Although, it is a great medium. I'd do something like spend a year living with my cows and film that. Go fetch yourself a cup of tea and watch this special, http://video.pbs.org/video/2168110328/

I love everything about it, not to mention Mr. Human Turkey is such a sweetheart. But these kinds of productions are difficult to fund. They just don't get the viewers.

I have a friend-of-a-friend who was on a reality show called "Ax Men," about men who fell trees for a living. He said the show runners cooked up phoney arguments between the guys and staged dangerous-looking situations on the show (that they guys would never have gotten themselves into in real life) to create "compelling drama." It was pretty good money, I guess, but he thought it was stupid.

Only heaven knows what kinds of drama might have eventually been expected of our MaryJane: "Aphids on the heliotrope! Everybody out here NOW!" Followed by pie bakers flinging apple peels at each other in what would be billed as "kitchen catfights!" Oh dear me.

You walk your own path, MaryJane. We happily follow.

Amy, thanks for digging this up. Great pilot! I just recently watched The Real Dirt on Farmer John (Gaiam TV), a documentary on John Peterson and his generational farm and it was quite interesting. Perhaps that would be a route to take, sort of the story of how you, Mary Jane, came to be an organic farmer. Just a suggestion.

Wanda, I have to agree with you. I also am not a television, so I tend to watch documentaries from my computer while I do hand work (knitting, hand embroidery, English Paper piecing etc). I tend to subscribe to instant stream site that provide a wide variety of educational documentaries.

I don't have a TV, so I would miss it if it actually had worked out. But I have to say, this world would be a much better place if we had more TV shows like that.

Thanks for tuning in Donna! You know Mz Daizy, TV offers continue to come and go but it just never feels right (too much angst and drama even in the negotiations). It's just NOT my thing in any way, shape, or form. Pretty much TV is a big pass for me, although sharing some of the fun we have here in video form has been fun and we should do more of it. Now where did I put that videographer Sister??

Mz MaryJane,

The way the reality shows have all ended up it may be a blessing that yours didn't take off. They all seem to be based on hatefulness and hurting each others feelings and lots of fake drama. I like you just the way you are....without all of that crap. You would have made the reality show biz step their game up tho. You could have really upset their apple cart....in the best of ways!!

Love our #1 Farmgirl just the way she is. Hope to catch up with you the next time you come out my way.

Hugs and prayers, Daizy

Thanks for the insight Mary Jane! I will say the video is a neat intro into the ideals of what you are teaching us - the stuff in the magazine, books, the Farmgirl Sisterhood as a whole all in a video form. Maybe we all just need to use our imagination on what the show would of been like..that video is a great jumping off point of sorts anyway and comforting to me when I watch it (more than once I may add)...glad I found it for you to bring back those memories :) even if it did not materialize into the actual tv project. Who knows, anyone new to MJF may get involved after seeing that one little video that is posted. This (even w/o the actual show)is a neat tie in kinda to the online MJF TV on your site AND to promote Sisterhood membership(I know strange, but that is how I look at it) Yes you are one busy gal for sure and thank you for all of the hard work in all of your endeavors.

Thanks Amy for posting the link. It's to bad the project never progressed to publication. I would have loved to watch it weekly!

Gosh, the things you find on the Internet. That pilot was shot by Martha Stewart's former producer right after my first book came out. It wasn't funded to the tune he'd hoped for (cheap reality TV was getting started) so the idea fizzled and we all moved on to other projects. For a few years we kept in touch but then even that went by-the-by. It was fun to watch it again because I don't think we ended up with a copy (maybe we did but I have no idea where it is) and I certainly didn't know it was on YouTube. Thanks for the heads up. (I barely have time to WATCH TV let alone BE on TV. What a HUGE commitment that would have taken!)

Hummm...yea I saw the video post on You Tube, at 1st thought maybe it could be related to the Farm TV thing that is part of the sisterhood/magazine on the MJF website. I also thought well maybe it was something back then, when I was not on here for awhile but I could not find any other info on it. Was it a series that just never took off or is it still in the works? But the promo said a new 30 minute series (and the YT post said a year ago, I think)....so it really got me wonderin'
