I just received an email telling me that I have been accepted for the state of Rhode Island's Master Gardener program. I am SO excited! 187 applied and 120 were excepted. I've been a garden volunteer for six years in a row for The Preservation Society of Newport, and I have loved every minute of it. I also volunteer for a local animal shelter and our local library. Unfortunately, with Covid, almost all of my volunteering has come to a grinding halt.

I was wondering if there were any Master Gardeners among my farmgril sisters. The classes start in January and I can't wait. All of the classes are going to be online, which I suppose will make it a little easier. But I'm still a little nervous and I was hoping someone could tell me what to expect.

hugs.
Marcy

Thanks, Marcy! Let me know if you have any questions when you are going through the process. I know the programs in our two states are similar. I am happy to help!

I just received my pin in the mail for 250 hours of volunteering as a Master Gardener. We will have the ceremony virtually. I am very proud. Some of my fellow MG friends have put in literally 1000’s of hours. I don’t know how they have done it! (Hours are cumulative, through the years).

I went through the program several years ago here in Kansas and learned so much. I begged my late dh for a Mantas and he said NO! But I did buy one after he passed on. I love it. Sure makes my gardening easier.

Thanks everyone for the congratulations, it means a lot to me. I am really looking forwards to being a part of it and learning all I can. Although, like I said I am a bit nervous. I have been a garden volunteer for Newport, RI's preservation society for the last six years although Covid put a stop to that for the time being.
Nicole, thank you so much for the information, I really appreciate it.

hugs,
Marcy

Hi Marcy!

I am a Master Gardener, class of 2015 through the University of Connecticut Extension program. In 2017, I became an Advanced Master Gardener. I also teach classes in gardening for the extension, my town and for Garden Clubs throughout my area.

Congratulations on being accepted! How exciting! Try to relax and enjoy it. Take lots of notes - that is what really helped me. My final was hard, and I was worried, but ended up making a 100 on it. You can do it! There is alot of information thrown at you, that is true, but it is all so interesting. I heard that here in New England, we have the hardest programs, but we have four seasons and a short growing season, so maybe that is why. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Being a MG is such a neat thing to do, and I am so proud of it. Good luck and a big Congrats!!!!!!

I went through the Master Gardener classes through the University of Wyoming extension years ago. There is so much information. Prepare to be overwhelmed. Also, they give some valuable printed material and links. I have referred to them many times over the years. I have considered taking it again with my husband as a refresher. Enjoy this time, Farm Girl and congrats on getting accepted!

I knew a master gardener here in Texas. Unfortunately, he passed away earlier this year.

Good for you Marcy! I have a friend that went through the Master Gardener program when she moved Arkansas. She really enjoyed it.

Woo Hoo Marcy --
Congratulations. I went through the Master Gardener program in Nevada several years ago and absolutely loved it. So much that I volunteered to be teacher's aide for several future classes. Great experience and I learned so much. I still have a file drawer full of class info. I'll look through it and see if I can find some fun stuff to send you, but I will need your mailing address. You can send it to me using the private email feature. When do your classes start? jean
