Hi girls! Hope you're all having a great day!

Let's talk about "the squeamish factor," as Amy Dacyzyn, author of "The Tightwad Gazette" books calls it.

Where do you draw the line?

Unlike one of the closest women to me in my life, I am not one to put condiments or applesauce, etc., in bowls during a meal then scrape remainders back into the jar for later. I worry about bacterial growth.

I also am not one to stir mold back into jelly, calling it penicillin, and considering it good for you.

I can't put leftovers in the fridge because they will get lost in the abyss and then become toxic hazard waste to contend with later. I will, however, immediately freeze leftovers for a smorgasboard dinner in the future when I'm on the fly.

We dont use bath towels twice in this house, either. I once had MRSA and my doctor told me never ever ever use bath towels twice because they're a breeding ground for bacteria. Makes me itchy just thinking about it.

The same doctor also made me promise never to use bath powder or deodorant made with corn starch because it is like creating a restaurant for bacteria.

Geez.

So today I go out to the garden and some heinous but innocent little creature saw my delicious organic cabbage and had a fine dining experience during the night. Rrrrrr. Critters! But I had plans... I wanted to make sauerkraut with all my cabbages!

So... What should i do? Clean it, trim it well, and use it, or just pitch it back in the garden for compost?

Im just not sure where my squeamish factor does or should lie with this one. Help!

So... Where do YOU draw the squeamish factor lines in your life? I am really intetested to hear

Hugs and love,

Nini

Thank you so much girls!

I knew I could count on your wisdom, Sara!

You are DEFINITELY not alone with this, Gracie! LOL! Thankfully I can say I truly have come a long way; but I'm sure NOT far enough! LOL!

Vanessa... You're too funny! LOL!

One of my girlfriends came by for coffee and I had her take a look. We decided it was "just" an insect issue, so I cut away and composted the nasty parts and kept the rest. SO happy that was all it was!

Thanks again! I really, really appreciate the input!

Hugs -

I'd cut off around what was nibbled, compost it, and use the rest. I had MRSA too, but I've always thought it would take a heap of germs to kill me.

Nini I'm right with you on most of what you do or don't do. The older I get the less I like leftovers so I try to get them in the freezer so I don't have to think about them for awhile.

If insects are eating your cabbage I would say cut the eaten part off plus a little extra. Now if it's a furry critter it would depend on how much was eaten. A nibble and I would do like for insects. If it's eaten through inches of leaves I would toss it. I'm afraid of diseases that are in animal saliva.
