Yesterday I sowed Swiss Chard, two kinds of zinnias, and white yarrow (yarrow is the Herb of the Year for our Jubilee) in 5 galvanized tubs. I didn't water them in because rain was expected, it did rain, so they are off to a good start.

Nice job, Sara! This coming weekend will be our planting weekend for our tomatoes. We have broccoli, potatoes, sugar peas 2 varieties, and cauliflower in the ground now. :)

The Swiss chard did not survive the cloudy dark days. The galvanized tubs set empty for a couple of weeks then my sister gave me five tomatoe plants that were looking poorly that she wasn't going to plant. So now I am a tomato farmer and proud to say the five tomato plants perked up and are doing good.

Nancy, so good to hear you are gardening with your granddaughter. Growing food for your table and making memories can't get any better than that.

I got energized this year when a hockey friend of ours gave me some garlic heads and told me how to plant them. They were doing very well, so I decided to try my hand at some other things. Now I have tomatoes, strawberries, onions, and marigolds growing too. I am once again getting excited about growing stuff in my garden. Our apricot, peach, plum, apple, and lemon trees are doing well. Can't wait for what looks to be a great crop this year. My Granddaughter and I are going to get some squash in the ground in the next week. So very hopeful for a good crop this year. We have been learning so much in the off season that we are ready to go!

Yesterday I thinned the Swiss chard and zinnias. Neither plant have grown much, too many cloudy days. I had the same problem last year with plants grown from seed being stunted because of dark days. I hope we get more sunshine soon so the plants will catch up so they will be able to withstand the summer heat.

My herbs I bought as plants are thriving and the sage & Greek oregano will be ready for first harvest soon.

I know how you feel about thinning! Those little guys have tried so hard; now we toss them just because they did not quite measure up? Sometimes I at least add them to a salad so they know they did not die in vain . . .

When asked “How are you?”, I reply, “Better than good!”

Thinning is hard for me too Sara!! I always feel so bad!

The ruby red Swiss chard and white yarrow has spouted. The yarrow seedlings are teeny tiny but if they all make it the oval galvanized tub will be covered with yarrow. I will let the Swiss chard grow for a day or two before I thin them. Thinning is hard for me because I am never sure which wee plant to take out with my embroidery scissors. I have an old pair that I use for thinning.

Nancy, your garden sounds like it's off to an amazing start! It makes me excited to get started on mine!

Connie, I love your bee sign. My neighbor needs that. She has her own bees and leaves all her weeds during the summer because of them.

Sara, Lily June planted her Zinna Seeds. She checked on them Friday after school and she was so giddy that they sprouted!she watered them and I'll keep a check on them for her until this Friday.

Rea, sorry to hear about the pesky raccoons wrecking your onion patch. I would have thought wild animals would leave onions alone but I guess I would be wrong.

The zinnias are spouting but so far no sign of the Swiss chard and white yarrow. My new bay is putting out new growth, I am so glad I replaced my old bay that didn't make it through the winters.

I dead headed the purple irises this morning which is always a pleasure each morning because I get to touch and admire them up close and enjoy their sweet aroma.

Started my garden again with onions after the silly raccoons dug them up for me to replant.

I'm sooooo in awe that you ladies are already able to plant and seeing results! While we had 75/80 degree weather just 3 daysa go, we had 3-5 inches of snow yesterday and cold temps again! I have my seedlings in my kitchen window, they are just now starting to sprout. Hoping the hubs can get to my recycled window garden shed soon to help me with prolonging my growing season here on our high desert. Our growing season is shorter than I could like. Ho hum!! Excited for spring, tho!

Hey Y'all
My garden so far is doing good. I planted garlic and onions in large tubs a couple of weeks ago. I planted corn and green beans seeds Saturday before Easter then planted tomatoes, squash and pickling cucumbers earlier this week. The bestest of all though I planted potatoes on St. Paddy's day and they are doing great. This is my 3rd attempt at having a successful garden since "replanting" ourselves out here in Wood County,Texas.

Oh one more thing,I planted an Herb garden yesterday. I have basil, oregano, thyme and lavender. I planted a tea garden too with lemon balm, holy basil, chamomile and Mexican mint.

Alee, we have been very similar this year over here. I am ready for the snow to stop falling. Our weather shows more this coming weekend. I am ready for spring.

Sara, it sounds like your garden is off to a great start. I can't wait until our weather lets me get started.

I’m with Michele! We had snow all Easter weekend. Thankfully it has melted again. Some years old man winter doesn’t want to lay down and go back to sleep. Some years it feels like with get around 6 months of winter. This year was really odd in my area though! We had 50 degree days in December!
