Posted - Feb 23 2024 : 5:23:01 PM Our first calf was born yesterday. It made me wonder what farm babies are making appearances on all my farmsister's farms. I thought it would be fun to share pictures.
Here's my new little guy:

Posted - May 10 2024 : 12:51:28 PM Heather, their tongues are so long! And it's funny to watch them outside trying to reach whatever they can on the other side of the fence. I hope I did my math right and can keep my garden out of their reach lol!

Posted - May 09 2024 : 12:21:29 PM Krista - just watch where you stand. When you get distracted and look away they'll use those long tongues to give you a shower. Trust me, I know LOL!
The little guy I thought was going to be Annie.
Found these 4 in my irises
Does anyone else have any farm babies? I know there's got to be some chicks and lambs somewhere.....

Posted - May 08 2024 : 1:19:29 PM Karen - I'm happy to answer questions! You're right - females are better because they give milk. We sell our bull calves when they're about 5 days old. We make sure they get their colostrum and are doing good before they go. If we had room we'd keep them and raise them up until they're ready for the butcher. We do keep one a year to eat. The same guy has been buying the bull calves since we started milking 21 years ago. He was still in high school! He has a small farm and raises all of our bull calves and the ones from another farm. So, at least I know they're going to a good home :)
Krista - Over the years it averages out to 50/50 bull/heifer for us. One year we had 23 heifers then the next year we had only 4! So, it does happen from time to time. It could stay this way but we could also get a run of all heifers for a while. Time will tell!
We had another bull calf born Saturday. I was excited because I thought it was a heifer. Saturday was our anniversary, the calf was little so I thought it was a heifer before I looked, so I was going to name it Annie. I was wrong LOL! So, I called him little fellow. I'll post his picture when I get them off my camera.

Posted - May 01 2024 : 2:35:57 PM Wow Heather! That's crazy. Does that happen very often? We have had more bulls than we have had heifers, but that falls down to the farmers wanting to keep the heifers. But I love my 2 ladies that we have right now!

Posted - Apr 30 2024 : 7:36:37 PM Heather, forgive my ignorance…not being on a farm or raised on one. I would assume for you and your business, you would rather have females, correct? What do you do with all the boys? Sell them? Eat them?

2 more baby boys:
And I found the first kitten:
The mama cat is not a friendly cat - she showed up last year and never left - and I don't think she was happy about her baby being found. Even though I only took a picture, I didn't touch it, she moved it. Not sure where.
