This book is 618 pages. Its the "FIRST FIVE NOVELS"
of House on the Prairie.
I have had the book for years but never read it.
I guess I thought it was going to be more of
a Children's book. Which of course it is. But
boy you learn a lot, no electric, no running water,
no furnace. All day ride in the horse and wagon to
get to the one store in town. Bears wandering
around out side the house. But they were happy.
Anyway lots of tips and ideas in case we ever
get back to that way of life. Since this is
a five novels book I guess things will change as I
keep reading..
HAPPY SUNDAY
Nancy Jo

I've always loved these books. Laura Ingalls Wilder was a wonderful author. It must have been something remembering all those things and writing them down. All her childhood memories.

Andrea, On the Nellie chicken....yep she's the meanest of our flock too! A really sassy girl! lol She's a Rhode Island Red...beautiful bird but not the nicest. lol She'll jump on the back of my leg if I don't bring her treats when she thinks she should get them. As a young chick she was the bully and pushy with food etc. Part of why I named her Nellie. lol It's all in fun though. At least she lays great eggs! :D

I love the TV show and still watch it now & then. Read the books when I was a kid. Maybe 10 years ago I was having a hard time finding books I wanted to read. Went to the book store and picked up a Little House book. Jennifer, that is really awesome! I don't think I would name chickens after Harriet & Nellie though. LOL One of my favorite episodes is when Nellie fell for Percival. She became much more likable after that.

I haven’t read these books yet. Now I really need to seeing how high of a praise they are getting.

I remember discovering the series in elementary school. Although I lived in South Dakota I never made it to DeSmet.

When my girls were growing up, I would read this series to them on road trips, usually on camping trips. We would also read around the campfire!

My mother-in-law is related to Laura Ingalls Wilder somehow. I can’t remember how. :)

Ohhh, I am loving this book!!! This past Spring, I bought a book on Laura Ingalls Wilder and it included all about her life growing up which became the inspiration for these children's books. Our Pioneer Women were quite brave and determined to make the voyage a good one despite all the threats and hardships of such rugged living.

I LOVE Little House! A lot of TV series was filmed here in the 70's and early 80's where I live. It wasn't unusual to run into Michael Landon, (Pa) Melissa Gilbert (Laura), or Melissa Sue Anderson (Mary) around town. Every year they'd do a big softball game at the high school with actors vs TV crew. Many in our community had jobs working on the set too. It was a fun time to grow up in!
I've read all the books and enjoy the reruns. I even named my 6 chickens after the female characters! We have Harriet, Caroline, Laura, Mary, Nellie and Carrie!

My all time favorite show, I still curl up with a favorite blanket and binge watch this series. I've never read any of the books tho, my son came home from school one day in grade school, years ago, they had a free book swap at school, he picked up a little house on the prairie book for me, I cried. Still have it, but have not yet read, will do so as Autumn continues to arrive. xo

My oldest daughter lived and breathed those books when she was little. She insisted I make oxtail soup.

Reading the Little House on the Prairie Books made me appreciate a little more what I am fortunate to have. They may have had it rough but they never really acted like they did and they were happy.

Nancy Jo, I never even heard of these books until I was an adult and saw the series. Which was shocking to me since I was an avid reader growing up. I bought the whole set of paperbacks when my son was born, to read to him in the coming years. We loved them, you’re right, so much to learn. The story that stands out to me, was the snowstorm that was so severe the train could not bring supplies to town. Also that they woke up with a mound of snow on their beds where it blew in through the cracks in the house during the night!

A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.
