FeedSacks 2022

YES! We get to do it one more time with big Farmgirl hugs and a huge shout out to Farmgirl, Laura Knippers, who has made a supply of feed sacks available to us.

As I have been re-reading the posts from our first two Feed Sack swaps last year while sitting in my cozy, warm house with more than enough to eat, I am reminded that on my very worst day during this never ending pandemic that we have been enduring for two plus years now, I have had it much better than the very best day of many who lived through those incredibly hard times of the Great Depression. I recently got an email from a teacher friend who said one of her nine-year-old students called this the Great Pandamnic. Love that one. So Farmgirls, lets participate in the FEED SACKS 2022 swap with an attitude of gratitude for our many blessings and to those who persevered during those times for ten plus years not two plus. Many of you have suffered tragedy and loss these last couple of years . . . you know who you are and this swap is dedicated to you hoping you will be reminded that tough times don’t last, but tough people do.

If you have been able to acquire a feed sack to use yourself, that’s wonderful and will allow more Farmgirls to join us. If not, let me know, send me your mailing address by private email, and I will send you one -- a random choice. First come, first served until the supply is exhausted. Sign ups until January 30. Partners posted January 31. Oh yes, mailing . . . How about a month to create our wonderful projects? So mail March 1.

Not sure what to make? I would encourage you to grab a cup of something warm to drink and sit a spell to re-read all the postings from the previous two Feed Sack swaps to familiarize yourself with the wonderful stories that were posted and the delightful projects that were made. Think aprons, vintage or retro style table adornments, clothes pin bags, broom and flyswatter aprons, pin cushions, book marks, stuffed toys . . . . you get it :-) Hopefully we'll have more wonderful stories this go-around too.

I will post an updated list of movies, books and reference links as this swap progresses. As an added bonus when you sign up, I will send you a marvelous PDF file of a vintage rick rack book – rick rack and feed sacks go hand in hand, you know. You’ll be dazed and amazed at all you can do with rick rack. And starting on page 15, you’ll find projects that lend themselves sew well to feed sacks.

Looking forward to seeing y’all here. Big hugs,
Jean

My first thought was -"they even made Easter flour sacks!?!" then I realized that was the table cloth LOL! Love the daffodil fabric, and what wonderful items you created Jean.

Thank You Jean for the amazing package. I know you used every inch of that beautiful daffodil feed sack. The stitching is perfection on every piece. What a fun swap.

It did come today Jean. I have a houseful of company for the weekend so I set it aside to enjoy once they leave. I can’t wait to open it.

Well Julie, according to USPS tracking the poor feedsack package was delivered to your mailbox a few minutes ago. I hope the poor thing wasn't too battered after it's long and circuitous journey. I can't believe all the states it visited on it's way to you. It's interesting, I have noticed that when things go from Deary to the Spokane distribution center, they generally get to their destination in a timely manner. But when they go from Deary to the Seattle distribution center, they tend to take weird routes to get to where they are going.
As an aside, and you'll understand when you get your package. I found a wonderful recipe today for using leftover water soluble stabilizer. Let me know if you want a copy.
hugs,
jean

Thank you Jean for the kind words. I am glad that I could help.
The swap was so much fun I am looking forward to the one in the fall.
I do love machine embroidery.

Thank you,
Kathy

I just enlarged Debbie's photos. Oh my, I love how Kathy embellished the table runner. She is sew knowledgeable and has helped me so much with my machine embroidery -- especially helping me understand stabilizers better. And, the bunny towel is too too cute. If you have ever tried to sew on terrycloth or towels, you know how tricky that can be. Hers looks wonderful.
Thanks everyone for playing with the feedsacks. There were some awesome things created. I know farmgirls get pretty busy with outside activities come spring through harvest time. So, with the remaining feedsacks that Laura sent, I'll probably wait until fall to do another swap.
Farmgirl hugs,
jean

I am so happy you like your package Debbie. I had a great time figuring out what to make for you.
I am sorry it took so long to get it to you, But my legs gave me a major problem.
I am going to ask my grand daughter to take a photo of the pillow you made for me so I can post it. I just love it and want to show it off.
Kathy

Awwwww, how sweet . . you're ready for spring, Debbie. Good job Kathy.

I'm finally finishing up my "re-take" on my last feedsack project (don't ask -- it would take too many four letter words to explain LOL). Sew Julie's package should go out on Wednesday. The swap host almost a month late -- my bad!!!! But I'm pleased with the results and hope TreeLady will find it worth the wait.

Oh my stars, what a gorgeous Feedsack swap package I received from Julie (TreeLady) a few days ag0.

She really outdid herself making a marvelous reversable apron with two matching pot holders and a nice big dish towel using the feedsack fabric in a neat border treatment. She also sent along a crochet dishcloth in a matching color and some beauty treats too. What a wonderful box of goodies. Thank you sew very much Julie.

I received my giftie from Debra and I love it! She made me a pillow and a pincushion. Thank you so very much Deb! I will take a photo tomorrow and post it on this list.

I am slow getting her package in the mail. I developed cellulitis in both of my legs and have had to spend the last three weeks "reclining" I hate sitting and it is difficult to sew in that position(lol) but I have my project just about completed and ready to mail this weekend.

Thank you again Deb for the lovely pillow, it will go well with my bedroom as everything is golden yellow and lt. purple.

I agree Grace!

Denise - I love the little size of it - it's perfect for my jerkey gun or a couple canning jars that need to be thoroughly dry before putting away. And I can always use mug rugs. I take my tea and hot chocolate where ever I happen to be doing something - could be the table, the couch, the sewing machine, the kitchen, even putting clothes away so having many in various places is a good idea LOL! I'm glad this swap helped you get back into sewing. It was a fun swap :)
