Hi everyone, I just started the Apple merit badge. I love apples. When I grew up I lived on a ranch in Santa Rosa California. I lived with my grandmother. she owned 83 acres. We had everything you could imagine. We had a big apple orchard. I use to help pick them and can apple sauce, apple juice, and several other things. We would go to the farmers market we would sell it there. So when I started to do this merit badge it brought back so many memories that I had not thought of in so long. It was a good thing. I went to live with my aunt a few years later and she owned 56 acres. We pretty much the same thing. But most of her rance was grapes, well that's another story I will tell you all later. I was supposed to tell you two things that I learned doing this merit badge. I learned that the apple tree did not start here in the USA and that I wish I was a kid again so I could climb the trees again and have no fear of falling. Apples are one of the fruits that most people love.

Allison, that is such a fun experience as a child. I love apples and would have loved to make all those things as a kid. Great job! Have fun with the Apple badges!

Allison, what a great story about your apple experiences!! I enjoyed the lovely photo as well. Where I live in Florida, apples cannot grow because of the weather conditions. I am, however, an apple enthusiast. This past Summer, I started a little journal about tasting every apple I found in the local grocery stores. To date, I have 24 different ones logged in and love them all.

We do a month long Apple Festival every September here at the Chatroom. I hope you will join in the fun and discussions that always take place. It is our time to honor and celebrate altogether all things delicious and useful about Apples!

Oh, Allison! What wonderful memories! Im just a little jealous... We have always had to go to the farm, but apples and apple pickin'- EVERYTHING apple- are some of my most favorite things ever!

What are your favorites? I'm interested to hear which ones you like, why you like them best, and what apples you use for the different apple dishes and cider you make!!

Have fun working in your badge!

Hugs,

Nini

Great apple picking memories Allison, thanks for sharing. I love apples and our neighbors had an orchard when I was little. I loved climbing the trees and picking a delicious apple for my afternoon snack. Not sure the neighbors were happy with my poaching but their orchard and strawberry patch were my candy store.
