My friend Linda and I dropped presents off for each other. She is a fan of all things vintage, too. She gave me these two pieces from the 40’s and I thought the idea of filling them with candy was so cute! She went to this little candy shop in RIdgefield, CT and found classic candy, filled them up, and put plastic inside the lids to make them airtight. For the hard candy she put a silicon dehumidity packet from a bottle of vitamins to keep the candy from sticking together. Looks so Christmasy and cute on the Hoosier. What a cute way to repurpose! She always picks out the most perfect presents for everyone.

Nicole what a cool gift idea from your friend! Very unique and so much fun for a vintage look. Grace, your idea with the grater sounds very cute as well. I wish I had known about this before I got rid of an old grater a few months ago.

Oh Grace, that sounds adorable! Don’t you love those battery powered lights? They have also really improved them the last few years! I have a string siiting inside my antique oven (decorative only now, from 1924), and a sting running across the top of my bicycle basket that sits by the camper in the summer. For Christmas, I have some in decorated skates, and around the top of a dollhouse, as well. I got really good ones at the dollar store, of all places!

Nicole,, one year I took an old 4-sided up-right Grater,,, spray painted it gold,, and then stuffed in a string of the mini lights up in side, ( the lites with the battery pack, uses 2 AA batts.) I used it in my trailer for ambience..
Might be the perfect recycle project...

Grace, isn’t that the cutest idea? She always finds the best goodies, and I just love how she repurposes things. She has a great eye, for sure. The candy is almost too pretty to eat! Judith, don’t you find all the old tools like that work great? I have a big chopper from the 40’s for all kinds of things like onions, etc. Still works great and I have had modern ones last very little.

I have a little nut chopper like that one. It was my mother's. It still works great.
