This is one of my favorite old Cookbooks. Went through the whole thing today and Now I'm hungry.
Hot here today but that's ok. Love summer. Busy weekend, Three Birthdays in the family, so we will all be at my Daughter's house for lots of good food. And I would guess that there will be fireworks going off even though they are not suppose to be. So we will all be sitting on the front porch eating to much.

Fanny Farmer has always been my go-to cookbook. I got a paperback edition the I got married, wore it out and found the gold edition hardback at the library bookstail for 25 cents.
What I have noticed looking at old recipes is all the fat that is used. If I followed them I would sure weight a lot more than I do now; either that or would have had a heart attack ten years ago.

The food choices today are surely different than that old standby. I use mine all the time too but I like old-fashioned food and not all the new doctored up stuff. My age I suppose but I worked on the Pillsbury Bakeoff and that was a hoot. Each recipe had to be tested to see what goofy thing a consumer could do to it and why it didn't come out like it should. Then when they said my cake is only an inch high, we had some idea of what they must have done. But what is really fun is to see cookbooks from the 1800s. There were no standard measurements then and until Fanny Farmer came out with her cooking school and insisted on standards, a cup for one person might be a thimble-ful for others. Try to follow THOSE recipes. General Mills and Betty Crocker are from my town so I have toured their test kitchens and really trust her recipes.

Sara, that's a good price on the thrift books. Thanks for checking that out. I was going to answer Dawn about the date 1950. That's a while ago. Boy time sure does go by.

Nancy Jo I was curious about your cookbook so I looked it up on Thrift Books. It was the first ever Betty Crocker cookbook to be published in 1950. Thrift Books prices: First edition $25.00 - later edition in the 1970s in good condition under $5.

I have seen that Cook Book in Pictures like yours but never really held one in my hands so I could browse through it!
It sure is pretty on the outside!!!
Hope everyone had a good 4th. Mine was just OK! I will be glad when the Fireworks are over in the Neighborhoods.

Nancy, that is one of my favorites too. I have one I got when I got married that was put out by Betty Crocker. It is falling apart. So I bought the one like in your picture. I thought it would be a new version of the same one but it is not. I really like them both.
