I like and wear aprons but lately the ones with neck straps bother me. I can't seem to get the straps to do right so they don't hurt me. Linda "Quiltee" made me two aprons with shoulder straps that are my canning aprons. I have a couple of vintage ones that go over my head and they are so comfortable.

The other day I watched an British mystery on TV and she wore a bib apron without straps that was pinned to her dress. I've been wondering if that would work for me. So what I want to know is have any of you ever worn aprons pinned to your dress/blouse and if so how did you like it. Overtime did you like it?

I luv the old, farm kitchen styled aprons of the 1940-1950's that grammys and moms wore almost all day long.. (TV-Waltons)...
They were practical,, and utilitarian.. but I also luv the frofro Hostess aprons of the 1960's.. oh heck.. I luv them all!

Countrygrace has a nice kitchen apron that I bought and wear most of the time. I think it is called "canning apron" not sure. It was the one that was like her grandmother's.

I love the 1930-1940’s apron that has two pockets and a band across the back.

Thanks Grace - I love them all. I have a Daisy Kingdom apron and didn't know it. It was given to me several years ago but it's way too small for me so I just display it. Until I run across a DK apron I'll keep pinning bibs to my dress.

OK, Sara..
here is my Daisy Kingdom,, all tho' it was not a Simplicity pattern..

it's reversible..

back side...

I also have 2 others I wear in the summer... that are easy to put on.. and nothing around the back of the neck.

if you look close,,, you can see staining... lol!

back side,, I slip it over my head, and tie the strap/bow..

my button front apron..

back side...

I use to make these Cobbler style aprons and sold them in my little shop. back in California..

You slip it on,, and snaps in the back...,, and the front has huge pockets!

Sara,, I keep forgetting to down load my apron pics.. but in the mean time,, this is one of the many variations of the Daisy Kingdom aprons..

It's my go-to apron in the Winter,, I can wear heavy winter leggings and a long sleeve sweater under it.. it looks like a smock dress..

I cut the straps off another apron this morning. It has cup cakes all over and a poke-dot ruffle on hem. Another estate sale find for $1 and it had a label from Hobby Lobby. This too was an apron I had stopped wearing because the straps hurt the back of my neck.

Has anyone ever seen the aprons that they used to wear and it had a button hole in it that went around a button on the blouse? I thought it would be neat to make one of those. Of course it wouldn't work for wearing over something with no buttons. It looks sort of like a half apron with the tie and then has the bib part on top. Wish I could find a picture of one.

Winnie I haven't bought her aprons but have one of her ironing board covers. Makes ironing a little more fun when I see the pretty chicken print.

`My favorite aprons come from our own Farmgirl , countrygrace, who sells them in her Etsy shop. They are full aprons that come from the pattern of her grandmother who made and wore this style all of her life. The apron fits over your shoulders and then it ties in the back waist area. They never droop, are never too snug or uncomfortable,, and keep me safe from my tendency to splatter stuff on my shirt. I started wearing them about eight or nine years ago and have many in all the seasons. She will also make one in fabric that I find and send to her. For me, an apron is essential for any time I am in the kitchen cooking or any chore. It has saved my clothes from unexpected spills from a whole host of stuff. I also have one dedicated to working outside for yard work too. One aspect of Grace’s aprons that I love is the big generous pockets on both sides. They have become so important for a variety of little needs.

Judith thanks for the name - pinners. No straight pins for this FarmGirl - gotta be safety pins for sure. I have a pinner (just love saying that) on now. So far so good. I found the apron a year ago at an estate sale. Paid 50 cents for it and it has large bright hand painted flowers on it. One of my favorites but haven't worn it much because of the straps.

Linda -- LOL -- keep WHAT from sagging??

Those aprons were called pinners. They used to use straight pins but I would use a safety pin to keep from sticking myself.

Sara,, I actually did make one as a gift for Maryjane.. using reproduction turn of the century fabric.. even the pattern was from the turn of the century.. and yes, you pinned the 'bib' part to your blouce..

I too don't like ties around the neck..
I luv the 'Daisy Kingdom" cross over apron..
I'll try to make time to take a photo of it... it is comfy and loose...

Linda that would work if I wore a bra. lol Gave that habit up the summer of 1979 when I went to work at a auto glass factory and it was 100+ in a un-air-conditioned building and I never picked up that habit gain.

Depending on the weight of your blouse or dress, it might be best to make sure you pin around your bra strap to better keep from sagging.

Thanks Nancy Jo. I think I'll try it on one apron. Tuck the straps behind the bib and pin to my at home maxi-dress. That's all I wear around the house is maxi-dresses made of tee-shirt fabric.
