I was so impressed and inspired with Winnie's (Red Tractor Girl) two Spring Giveaways that I decided to jump in with another one. During our Shelter in Place I have been doing quite a bit of baking, lots and lots of cookies that I have some busy helpers delivering to many that are alone in their homes during this time. So share your favorite cookie and recipe (I would love some new recipes) if you choose by April 29th. Winner will be drawn on April 30th. I think all of us could use a little pampering, the giveaway is a homemade bar of Apple Cinnamon soap (keep washing your hands), a small jar of whipped body lotion, a crocheted soft scrubbie, great for your face and a few other surprise goodies. Be well and stay safe

Hi Gail! What a lovely giveaway. Here is a recipe my grandma used to make and she would have them whenever we visited. She knew we kids loved cookies.

Raisin Cookies

Mix together:
2 1/2 cups of flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup soured milk
1 egg
1 tsp. baking soda
Mix well and roll and cut out with biscuit cutter or top of glass.

In saucepan mix:
1 cup raisins
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. flour
1/2 cup water
Cook until thick, stirring constantly.
Put filling between 2 cookies and crimp edges.
Bake at 350 degrees until lightly browned.

Good Morning Farmgirls and Happy Wednesday. Join the giveaway today, drawing is tomorrow. So far I have made Hattie's Sugar Cookies and the Ranger Cookies. I received a note from a 93 year old member of my church thanking me for the Sugar Cookies, she said "they reminded me of cookies I made with my aunt when I was a child, such blessed memories", a man whose wife is suffering from dementia and in a care facility loved the Ranger Cookies. He is unable to visit with his wife due to the Coronavirus and it is nice to brighten his day with treats. Be a blessing to someone today, send a card, make a phone call, bake some treats. Enjoy your day! I'll announce the winner tomorrow.

We are spread out all over the United States but get together for a reunion every two years in Minnesota. Enjoy your day.

Hey Gail, thanks for doing the giveaway.

You inspired me to dig out an old cookbook from a family reunion back in the 70's. My second cousin painstakingly typed the whole thing on a manual typewriter and then used a ditto machine to run off copies for all the family members.. We are LDS (Mormons) so there are alot of us LOL. Anyway. Here is my mom's recipe for Caramel Brownies.
She used to make them two ways. She would make them in a 8x 8 pan as the recipe suggests. She would also spread them out on a greased cookie sheet for bar cookies.
Enjoy!

Sylvia's Caramel Brownies

1/2 c Shortening
2 eggs
2 c Flour
1/2 t salt
2 c brown sugar
2 c nuts
2 t Baking powder
2 tsp vanilla

Grease a 8x8 baking dish. Set the oven at 375 degrees. Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix Well. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Fold in nuts. Pour into pan and bake for 20-25 minutes.

My mother made these for my son when he went thru a spell of refusing to eat when he was about 4. They continued to be his favorite cookie. I sent many dozens of them to him when he was in the Air Force and stationed in various places around the world. They are still a family favorite--Look at all that oatmeal and rice krispies -- you can eat them for breakfast :-)

Ranger Cookies

Ingredients
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup butter
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups oatmeal
1 cup coconut
2 cups Rice Krispies

Preheat oven to 375°F.
In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; set aside.
In a large bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, sugar, and vanilla extract; beat until creamy.
Beat in eggs.
Gradually add flour mixture; mix well.
Stir in oatmeal, coconut, and Rice Krispie cereal; mix well.
Roll into small balls and flatten with hand.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheets for 10-12 minutes or till light brown.
Enjoy!

Hi Gail thanks for hosting this fun give-away. I'm not a baker - don't enjoy the exact measuring and having to do it just right. I'm more of a pinch of this and handful of that kind of cook. But I do like cookbooks especially the old ones. So I found a cookie recipe in my "The Wilken Family Home Cooking Album" from 1933. The family ran a small whiskey brewery in PA.

Hattie's Sugar Cookies

2 Tbsp butter
1/2 c sugar
1 egg
2 Tbsp milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
2/3 c flour (about)
1 tsp baking powder
sprinkling salt
2/3 c chopped nuts

Mix as for sugar cookies; add the nuts; drop the dough by the spoonfuls about two inches apart from the point of spoon on buttered sheets. Decorate the cookies with halves of nuts. Bake them in a quick oven.

Though I love old cook books they can be a challenge to follow the recipes. Like it takes for granted any woman worth her salt knows how to make sugar cookies; how much is a sprinkling of salt; and how hot is a quick oven. And how about the measurement for flour - 2/3 c (about). Gotta love those old recipes.

Katmom and Winnie, you are all signed up. Thanks for posting the recipes, I will use them and I know many of the people I am taking cookies to will love them. I have 6 on my list for tomorrow, my daughter and granddaughter deliver for me. It is fun for them, the deliveries are like "early May baskets", they ring or knock and leave the package by the door. I call ahead to let them know the goodies are coming. I am blessed to have the opportunity to do this and share with others.
