I am not much of a quilter,,, but I do dabble in quilting...

Here is a wee quilt project I whipped up today... now I just need to find some silica sand to finish this pin cushion,,,
yep! it's now a UFO... lol!

Now, what shall I make/stitch-up tomorrow?

I bought it at a store that had rock tumblers, lapidary equipment, and gold mining supplies. That was awhile ago so now i would probably look online for it.

gramaDinah,
I used your idea of the sawdust.. I placed the sawdust on 2 baking sheets and placed in the oven for a wee bit, for the heat to sanitize the sawdust.. then let it dry before putting it into the pin cushion.
Works perfect...

My mother used emery in pincushions so I found some to use too. It doesn't hold moisture and helps keep needles sharp. Sand is second best.

Krista,, my daughter does her own 'postage' from home on her computer,, I need her to teach me how to do it.. via computer and printout.. She is her own little P.O. lol!
She has it down to a science,, the mailers, the labels and scale...
FYI.. I luv the Lavender spritz Toner.... but I keep the rose water one on hand as well...

Try and play around with the shipping and it’s costs. I mail a lot with my makeup and have been searching for the best ways to mail it for the cheapest. The mail lady helps a lot!

Judith, luv the idea of leaving a little trinket or two in the sand for a future find..
and
yes,, good idea to sanitize the sand.... nothing worse then stinky sand odor! of kitty/doggy piddle odor in the sand!

Krista,, yes,, crazy the cost of shipping.
I recently sent a single face mask in a regular 9" legal size envelope,,, 70cents,, and in a small manila 6x9 envelope I sent 2 masks,,, $3.40... I should have sent each mask sepertly, $1.40 vs $3.40... hmmm!

Some places charge outlandish shipping. I once ordered a tiny plastic template. It could have been mailed in an ordinary envelope with a forever stamp. Instead they charged me $6. That was the last time that place got my business.

Grace, you make me chuckle! To bad you don’t live near me. I have loads of sand like dirt you could have. My kids have been playing in it non stop. I can’t believe how much shipping is on something’s. I needed to order some more sticky jewels for my wood project. They were $4 and they wanted $6 in shipping. I couldn’t do it. So I used a different color and made it work. I can ship those jewels for less than $6. It’s not right.

Sneak over to the playground, take the sand and leave a little something for a child to find. That way it's not stealing. Wash the sand before baking -- it will probably smell better.

Thanx Krista,, sooo... here is my question..
If I were to sneak out of the house before sun-up.. head over to the Elementary school or Local Park play ground,, and 'borrow' a cup of playground sand,,
#1 would that be stealing?
#2 do you think I could place the sand on a throw away baking sheet, bake the sand at 350 for 30 min,, would that sanitize the sand?
Or
#3 go on-line and purchase $3 of sand and pay $6 for shipping???

lololol!

Thanx for all the sweet comments..
As soon as I get the silica sand to put in it,, I can sew the end closed..
I made it for my dear (around the corner) neighbor,, who is a retired Home EC., teacher and avid quilter.
