When daddy retired from the US Army in August 1969.. we moved to Newbury Park, Calif.,, Dad and mom bought their very 1st home.. complete with green Shag Carpeting!! yep.. mom and I raked that carpet everyday.. oh joy!!
Mom finally got rid of it in the mid 1980's.. and it look as new as the day it was installed.. of course,, it was in the (no one is allowed) the formal living room.. Dad called it the "Mueseum".. lol!
Anybody else grow up with Shag carpeting?

Posted - Mar 09 2020 : 6:41:21 PM Wow, Dippity Do and shag carpet rakes. What else can we dig up from the 70's, Smock tops and hip huggers?
For you youngins we raked shag carpeting because of the long nap it tended to get mashed down and flat looking in heavily used paths. The rakes fluffed it up. We had olive green shag and avacado green kitchen appliances. Oh and paneling, dark olive green paneling in our dining room. wow

Posted - Mar 09 2020 : 3:28:57 PM Oh Krista,, we had to vacuum it all the time,, Mom would have us rake it on the way out the door... I guess it would look nice for when a possible burglar were to sneak into the house... lol!

Posted - Mar 09 2020 : 1:20:12 PM Grace...we had shag carpet back then but I had never heard of a rake for it! Oh, if my mother had known about that my sister and I would have been raking morning, noon, and night. LOL. Good thing that Spokane was just a small Cow Town back then (not much bigger now though)! I guess there were advantages of it taking years for new trends to reach us!!! LOL

Posted - Mar 09 2020 : 1:13:16 PM Grace, I had no idea this even existed. How silly! Why would you rake your carpet? Is that how you would vacuum it?
