10/23/19: Well, I've been using CPAP for almost 4 weeks with some improvement in SOME symptoms. I'm grateful for this. As far as the Vestibular/balance issues, I don't know if the CPAP will help that or not. It's a different "animal" than the sleep apnea in most ways.

CATARACTS: Saw my ophthalmologist the end of August for followup on glaucoma. Pressures are up a little in both eyes. Still in normal range but higher than he says is "ideal". So I started a 2nd eye drop, a different one than the one I've been using. Use the new one in the morning and continue with other in the evening. I was disappointed with this but praying the eye drop regimen does the trick.

So, I've had two medical "surprises" come my way this year:
- SLEEP APNEA
- GLAUCOMA!

THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYERS!!
CJ

09/17/19: UPDATE: Due to a cancellation at the pulmonologist I was able to see him yesterday! He went over study results with me and I DO HAVE SLEEP APNEA, worst when I am in REM sleep which is the sleep a person needs the most!! I have to do a 2nd sleep study, all wired up again but with CPAP treatment through the night to see how I respond so dr. can have info for the right treatment settings, etc. That is scheduled for next Tuesday, the 24th. NOT looking forward to that but if it is necessary then I'll power through it.
CONTINUED PRAYERS ARE APPRECIATED! THANK YOU!!

09/07/19: SLEEP STUDY is done! It went okay. I slept okay but would have loved to have slept better. Nice, quiet, cozy room with excellent technologist (a gal). I had wires and leads ALL OVER! She told me that I did quit breathing a LOT of times while on my back, did better on side. BUT I have to wait until appt. with dr. to get details of results and discuss plan. It's been a rough week and I ASK FOR CONTINUED PRAYERS!!
THANKS SO MUCH!!!
CJ

09/01/19 UPDATE: My eyes are healed and my vision is better than it has been for a long time. I can tell there is some glaucoma damage in the left eye, BUT with the cataract surgery it is SOOOOOOO MUCH better. Glaucoma drops in both eyes are keeping the pressures down and the glaucoma from progressing.

I saw the pulmonologist on Aug. 22nd, he believes that sleep apnea MAY be causing some of my symptoms. He was very informative, "patient friendly" and talked to me like I was a person. I am scheduled for a sleep study this coming Tuesday night, Sept. 3rd. I'm not looking forward to that but if it will give some information that will indicate what's going on and I can be treated and FEEL BETTER well . . . let's get on with it.

PRAYERS FOR ME ON THE SLEEP STUDY would be appreciated. THANK YOU!!
HUGS TO ALL!

CJ

07/27/19 UPDATE ON CATARACT SURGERY: Surgery went well and my vision is great. Still have some adjusting and healing to do, follow the LOTS of eyedrops regimen and see surgeon on Aug. 2nd for one-week postop followup.
Had some minor issues with the sedative the anesthesiologist gave me to "help me relax" but I think my vestibular disorder, being hungry and dehydrated from not being able to eat or drink prior to surgery just compounded the issue. On the mend!
PRAYERS HAVE BEEN SO APPRECIATED!!
THANK YOU!!
CJ

Dear Farmgirl Sisters,
I haven't been on the Connection much lately and it's pretty much all because of continued and worsening health struggles. But I'd like to come asking for your prayers right now.

~ Cataract surgery on my right eye this coming Thursday, July 25th!
I had seen my optometrist in February who referred me for cataract consult which happened in early April. At that time the ophthalmologist told me I also had glaucoma, worse in the left eye than the right, but pressures in both eyes were abnormal. So, he wanted to treat that glaucoma before any surgery, which we did for three weeks and then I had cataract AND glaucoma surgery on the left eye on May 9th. My eye has done well, more vision restored than I expected and I'm grateful for all of that! Dr. wanted to wait until my one-month post-op followup on left eye before deciding what to do about right eye. At that time we decided on cataract surgery but he didn't think it would be necessary to do glaucoma surgery. Yes, I have glaucoma in the right eye but is considerably less serious and it is believed glaucoma drops will manage it in both eyes from here on out.

SOOOOO, PLEASE pray for the surgery to go well, my preparation will be smooth (not eating for a long period of time which is hard for me) and for speedy healing and restored vision.

~My primary care physician referred me for neurology consult for evaluation of symptoms that are NOT ESTABLISHED as part of my vestibular disorder. Neurologist is doing evaluation for Parkinson's and/or sleep apnea. Still have sleep consult and possible sleep study to go through . . . UGH!!!

~I was diagnosed TWO YEARS ago with a vestibular disorder which is basically balance (significant) issues, lightheadedness/dizziness/vertigo, lots of nausea, extreme fatigue, etc., etc, ETC. I have been evaluated by two specialists for this who believe I have damage to my inner ears caused by a viral infection. Only thing I can do is management, vestibular rehab therapy, etc. This has been a VERY REAL CHRONIC and DEBILITATING DISORDER. Probably will never go away! I have some good days and some really nasty days.

I don't want to get into the nitty gritty of all of this and I AM seeking medical advice, care and treatment. The ONLY thing that is successful at this point is the eye care, surgery and treatment!

I just would ask for you farmgirls to PRAY for me . . . it's just been going on for so many years and I haven't been able to find anything that REALLY HELPS! I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO VERY, VERY, VERY WEARY!!

With my heartfelt HUGS, LOVE and GRATITUDE!
CJ

Lori . . . your prayers and concern mean a tremendous amount to me. THANK YOU!!!!
Each day brings struggles, some days are more difficult than others. Today was a pretty good day . . we were able to go to the mountains and enjoy God's creation and some peaceful scenery. I'm on day two of preop eye drop preparations for my surgery on Thursday. Tomorrow will be just doing what I need to do around the house before surgery day and being on postop restrictions (no lifting heavy objects, no bending no stooping, etc.) for a week.
I think of you and your struggles as well and will continue to pray!
THANK YOU AGAIN!
GOD'S BLESSING!

Heartfelt thoughts your way, CJ. I'm so sorry to hear you're ailing--such a hard, impossible pull. I'm looking at that snapshot in time on a postcard you sent of Robin, you, me, and Meg in 2011. We were such youngsters back then. Good memories for when things aren't as carefree as they were back then.

ANNIE . . . I was going to send you an email but it's not an option through this Connection. If you'd like you can send me an email through the Connection and I could reply.

Just briefly thought, I live at 7000 ft. elevation. I don't really notice much issue with elevation when we go to the mountains (elevations of 10,000-11,000). I go to my daughter's in Glendale, Arizona at an elevation of around 1100 feet and don't really feel much different. I do, however, find that riding in a car for long periods "messes" with me as does a lot of other activity and movement.

Anyway, I appreciate you sharing . . . would love to chat about it more via email.
THANKS!
CJ
