has anyone caught the bug of sewing hexies? I have and it is so much fun. it is hand sewing and I do it while i watch tv or my hubby and I are going somewhere while he does the driving. Just wanted to know if anyone wants to swap some with me? I do 1 inch ones and 2 inch ones. I also do the 1/2 inch ones if anyone really has gotten into those.

Not familiar with paper piecing but I was just watching someone showing how to do it on Youtube. My first question would be, do you always stitch them onto another piece of fabric? Basically, it would be like applique I guess. Or do you just add more pieces to make the whole top of your project ?

I absolutely love English Paper Piecing (EPP). I like that the project is portable ... I can take it anywhere, without a big fuss. I keep all my hand work projects in baskets ... yea I get distracted a lot and start a new project ... Squirrel!

My current hand work project is in a basket that I bought from an Amish vendor. Yea, I love hand baskets! I have quite a few of them ... Squirrel!

Catch you all later! Cheers!

I am hooked on hexes too. I keep mine in a tin box. Small enough to put in a tote. I hand-quilted a Henie quilt my husband's grandmother pieced on the machine. It was gorgeous when finished. I had quilted it for my hubbys aunt. About 6 months ago she gave it to us. I am thrilled!

Grace what a wonderful idea. I saw one they other day at a Thrift store and almost bought it but my storage space is limited. But I might have to rethink that. it was really cute!! probably should have gone ahead and bought it!!

Oh and I forgot to mention,, I find my little sewing baskets at local Thrift shops for usually under $5, and often times they are filled with thread, button, needles etc.

Beverley,, I use 'zipper' type baggies to corral my projects,, I also luv (and collect) thoses cute old wicker type sewing baskets... that way I can put a project (think, Stow-n-Go) in the basket along with scissors, needles, thread, pattern etc. then when I go Glamping I just grab a basket or two and toss into the trailer.
I have a dear friend who has a Time share,,, and also goes on 2 Cruises a year,, she loves the zipper bags because they pack easy.

I went to a needlework group and met a lady who was in a worldwide hexie swap. They were all flowers and some people sent extra petals. She had a medium sized plastic container full of them and was sewing them together. She said it was important to keep up sewing the swap hexie's for the swap. People keep track of those who don't. Her piece is amazing. Some swappers write their name and location in the middle. Another project I would love to do if I can find the time.

How big are the hexie fabric pieces you have. Most start with a 1 inch hexie which is measured by the side of the hexie not across. the 1/2 inch ones are pretty small but fun to do too. the templates are usually for cutting your papers not for marking sewing lines. you can get cutters by fiskars to cut your pieces of paper too. they are the ex large one for 1 inch ones and medium for the 1/2 inch. you can get them at joanns and amazon. I think they are easier than you are expecting them to be.

I have my fabric cuts and paper pieces and a needle, thread and scissors in a small like pencil case that zips up all the way around and it fits right in my purse for when I go anywhere I can work on a few. They are so fun and really with hexies you do not have to mark your sewing lines cause you just fold the fabric over the paper piece and do a stitch. google how to do them. You will be hooked for sure. If you ever want to swap a few flowers or petals let me know. I would love a few really old ones in my quilt. Hope this helps. there are all kinds of videos on you tube for how to do them. They are really easy. Please ask if you have anymore questions.

Hey y’all! Beverley I just discovered a box of 1/2” hexies that are over 100 years old! I’ve quilted quite a bit but never wanted to fiddle with hexies. But I have been bit by the bug! I usually paper piece small shapes, but since these are pre cut (and individually bagged by color) I ordered a laser cut 1/2” template for marking sewing lines. I’m not brave enough to eyeball the stitch lines! I was wondering how you or Grace travel with your handwork. My husband and I are about to retire and travel is on the calendar. Besides my knitting, I am excited to bring a change of pace.

Bev,, I have sewn a few small Hexie projects.. (paper piecing) I still have a small stack of the hexie papers...
I usually make coasters with hexies,, because like you said, they make easy 'totetable' projects.
I luv looking through 'pintrest' to get ideas..

I spotted these on pintrest.. but never got around to it.. my life story!!! lol!
