Thanks Krista! I started a chapter but don't have members yet. But I got my sister, mom, and eldest daughter set up as members. So I think I'll do a reading challenge for them.
MaryJanesNiece Posted - Jul 31 2023 : 1:56:15 PM
That's a good question and to be honest I am not sure. You can always send them an email to find out for sure. I haven't done that badge level yet.

Thanks Krista! I’m reading a book now on the Zero Waste Lifestyle so still plugging along. I have a question about the reading contest/challenge. Are there guidelines or best practices for running the challenge?

Welcome Shennandoah! Your TBR pile looks awesome. I hope you are able to read all the books you are wanting to this year. Have fun with all the badges.

New farm girl here posting toward my first badge! I've long held a library card. The library (and book store) are one of my favorite places. I was a single mom for over a decade and the library let my daughter and I check out books, audiobooks, and movies for our entertainment -- all free! A couple of years ago I discovered that the library has a Libby app so I can listen to audio books on my phone. They also have free access to a few genealogy sites such as Ancestry (just for searching not for building your own tree). I took my daughter to story time when she was younger (she's 20 now) and was part of a genealogy club that met at the library.

I buy most of my books these days (because I have the funds now) and have a habit of buying a bunch at once then devouring them. I read a variety of topics, mostly nonfiction, both for my own interests and for my work/professional development. Here is my current TBR pile(s).

I have a Reading Journal I bought off Amazon to help me keep track of what I have read and need to read. Last year I read 42 books! I took on a bigger role at work and have been managing a couple of large change projects, so haven't been doing as much reading outside of work since I've been spending so much time learning new technologies. But hoping to end the year strong!

Kathleen, that is a great start on your badge. Also, your reading buddy is adorable! That’s really nice that your library is letting you download the books. Right now that would be an easier option for me. That way I don’t have to drag my 3 littles in with me.

I love reading, but I never really get a lot of time to read (there's always something for us to do). So, I'm glad to be finally working on this badge. This is my recent pile of books that I plan to read. Our library is opened only one day a week right now as long as our Covid numbers stay down, but our librarian has set up a digital library (using our library cards) so we can download books to Kindle for the rest of the time. I love this system, but I prefer the feel and smell of books in general. These books are from the library and the topic this week is history, which I love. I love finding the tidbits of information that make you go, "Wait, what?" from these types of books. I also really enjoy that there is always another story to follow in history and even minor events can lead to the butterfly affect.

Additionally, I have a book buddy who loves my reading time now.

Have a wonderful day!

Thanks Krista! Those Viking tours sound awesome! I've read quite a bit about them and if the world ever gets a little more back to normal, I would love for us to be able to do that. Hope you can find Northmen for your husband. I think it will be a very interesting book. Have a great day!

Stacy, that’s a great pile of books! My husband loves Vikings. We even did some Viking tours when we went to Norway. I’m going to show him that book title and see if he will be interested in reading that one himself. Enjoy your reading material and good luck with your badge.

I'm finally getting around to starting my Bibliophile Badge. I've had a library card since I was a child (that's a really loooonnnnggg time now). These books are my personal copies. Our wonderful city library is mostly closed right now because of Covid-19. They are able to work on a limited basis. That's okay, though, because I have lots of books here to keep me busy. As one might detect by the list, I love fantasy romance and action stories. The book on the bottom is another type altogether. I Love Vikings! This book was recommended by someone I have done volunteer activities with and it has gotten awesome reviews.Let's go read!

I work in 2 libraries, so my TBR pile is often pretty eclectic, depending on what's new. I'm about halfway through Untamed, but that cookbook is calling me :)

Here is my short TBR stack. Okay, I have already finished the one on top. It was such a quick and entertaining read. I have already passed it along to my auntie who I know will enjoy it. I am about 3/4 of the way through the second book and I am really enjoying learning about the history of both the beef and dairy industries. I have also ordered a few more that should be coming next week. I would love to join a book club, but all the ones that I know of do not read the style of books that I enjoy. I do participate in the Science Friday book club when I can.
Thank you,
Kelsi

Just submitted for my Expert Badge, finally! Here is the "little free library" I created at work since I rent right now and sadly can't put one in the complex..
