About 10 years ago,, I started trying my hand at quilting..
I started saving patterns in a binder,, and then would try making my samples...
I keep the samples in a file keeper,,,
It's kind of fun to pull them out and critique my old blocks,, and then try to make a new one.
I was going to make a baby afghan using this design,,, but alas,, never did.
( I cut a circle in half,, stitched one piece vertically and then stitched the other piece horizontally.. and added yoyos for the wheels.)

I sew agree about starting out with small not to fussy projects...
my very 1st quilt was one I made for my mom and dad... using up all my fabric scraps....mind you... that was early 1970's when polyester was really popular...lol!.
I did simple 8" sq. & then in the center, block, I hand embroidered mom & dads wedding date as well as my sister and my name and birth dates...
Looking back it was a very super beginner level quilt.... but I was proud of it non-the less...
mom packed it away about 25yrs ago... and has no idea at which house it is stashed (mom is somewhat of a snow bird & owns 2 homes)... so the quilt could be at either homes attic...
It's not the skill level of quilting that brings joy... it's the love you put into it....

Shannon - you've been in some of the 10" square swaps. They are a great starting point for a quilting project. You can do it.

Shannon,
You can do it! Start with a table runner or wall hanging, they are small and doable and can be as easy or as complicated as you want. Some times I get overwhelmed with the whole process, but id you break it down and do it one step at a time it comes together a little easier.
You have made a lot of lovely and creative projects. I still have your magnets from a swap on my refrigerator, and they make me smile every day!
You can do it!!

Grace - you've only been quilting for ten years??? For real???? Maybe there is hope for me??? I'm afraid to start as I seem to have convinced myself that I will never be any good at it (why oh why am I so hard on myself?). I think I might need to just go for it and quit procrastinating with the hopes of finishing a quilt in about ten years time ;)
As for the binder idea - that is such an awesome idea!!! I LOVE binders and I LOVE sheet protectors - you are a GENIUS!!!!! And Krista - I totally agree about making multiple binders for multiple crafts. Yay! Another fun project to add to my never ending list :) Let's just hope it doesn't become next year's UFO ;)

What a great idea. A binder could be used to collect pictures and samples of many projects. I think I need one of these for my crochet.

I was going to take pictures of the quilts I've made and collect them in a binder with info about them. I've got pictures of MOST of them, but have yet to put in a binder. they are on my computer.

Grace, I love the idea, never thought of doing that, but I do want to create a sample book for quilt decorative top stitching designs (I don't have a long arm machine nor the space to consider).
