Hi y'all! My name is Katie and I'm from Bangor, PA, part of the slate belt of Pennsylvania. We're just south of the Pocono mountains along the Appalachian Trail.

I can't tell you how giddy I get when I get Mary Jane's magazine and when I learned about the the farmgirl connection I nearly laid an egg myself

I get very passionate about everything I do and I look forward to finding friendships with like-minded ladies. I've been disabled for a few years and feel like my mind needs a "tune-up" and I think the merit badges are just what I need. I currently use my garden for my physical, emotional and spiritual therapy.

I have started a chapter, currently a chapter of one, the slate belt farmgirls, with the hope of finding women in the area who would like to meet face to face and work together. In the meantime, I look forward to meeting some of you virtually!

Welcome Katie from SW PA! I am a new member, too, and have found these farm girls absolutely wonderful!

So for music what you can do is tell us about what you have learned, tell about the genres you choose, how you feel, etc. There is already a music topic created under the merit badge section. You can tell us about it here http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=77751. This will show that you have completed the badge and then you can apply for it. I believe you need to complete each level one at a time. I could be wrong so anyone please correct me if so. You can also email Brian if you have questions as well. He can also answer questions about merit badges. brianogle@maryjanesfarm.org

Does that help or make sense?

Ok, lets start with music. Learn the basic elements of music, listen to three songs from three different genres of music and identify the elements in each.

Also, can I work on all three levels at once? Or must I earn beginner and then move on to intermediate, etc?

Katie, it all depends on the merit badge you are working on. Which one are you working on and I will see if I can help clarify for you.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes!

When getting started on merit badges - I can't wait - do I write a report, take pictures? How do I show that I've completed a level?

Hello Katie and welcome to MJF. My name is Jana, I live in Southern California along the coast, I have been a member for one year and agree with you on finding MJF a wonderful community, with like minded thinkers, and so much information ready for the asking. I am sure you will fit in beautifully and hope to learn more about you, your hobbies, successes and adventures.
