Ok,, I can not for the life of me remember where I saw the post about the mini baby blanket with the colorful tabs on it...

After perusing pintrest I decided to create my own,,,
this is what I came up with...

18" x 24" flannel fabric with a sheet of cotton batting (uber thin 1/8")
I only had these 2 pieces of flannel but I think it worked out fine.

fortunately I had a box full of bits of ribbon...

when sewing the RST I placed the ribbons, stitched it all together and then did a 2nd row of stitches ( 1/8" apart)to secure the ribbons..
then I flipped it to the right side out, and then top stitched it with 2 rows about 1/4" apart... so the ribbons were actually stitched secured 4 times,,, probably over kill,,, but better safe than sorry.

The 2 biggest bagaboos where the ribbons shifting as I was sewing... and when I was top stitching,, I kept getting hung up on the loops,,

But other than that,, it's an easy peasy project...
I also did 4 rows of top stitching down the wide width of the blankie to keep the fabric from shifting...

I agree Deborah! It's definitely a lesson that makes you pay more attention. So far I have cut everything again and plan to focus and think everything through before I touch the sewing machine!
Glad I'm not the only one!

Krista,
I just did the exact same thing on a lined curtain panel with trim I was making. LOL!

I have to FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! Lol!

I had to rip out all the stitching. YUCK! But a very valuable lesson learned. LOL!

Hugs!

So.... Grace....I could have used you today! I cut my fabric and finally dug out my sewing machine and got to sewing. I finished my blanket and sure enough....my ribbons are on the inside. What the heck was I thinking! Lol! Well now I have to start all over. And I decided to just give the blanket with the tags inside to my other boy and start a new taggie blanket. It's not worth unpicking all that work. I'll start again tomorrow.

Thanx Shannon...
I agree... next time I will use wider ribbon... and I like the 'texture' idea.

Krista, I pinned the ribbons in place on the right side of one piece of fabric then layed the backing and batting on top and stitched all three together.
Next time I think I will baste stitch on the ribbon and then add the backing and batting and stitch all 3 together.. that way I won't have any ribbons slipping....

How cute! I've made quite a few of those over the years... I generally put fewer ribbons and use wider ones, as the small ones can be difficult for younger babies to get ahold of.. Something else that i do that you may want to consider in the future is use different textures of ribbons. I usually try to find ribbons with raised stripes, dots, hearts, etc, so that there is also a texture experience, along with smooth ribbons. Would love to see what other ones you and others make!!!

LOVE IT!!! Grace it turned out great! We were talking about it on the "what are you working on" topic. Thank you for the tips. Now I'm really itching to get mine made! I'm just going to have to load the boys up and head to the store after nap. How did you attempt to keep the ribbons in place. Did you find a difference between using small ribbons compared to big ones?

My after thoughts of this projects is,, I probably should have not added as many ribbon tabs.. maybe just 6 on each side???
Has anyone here made one of these?

I like the idea behind them,, for a infant to be able to grasp and move the mini blankie... which helps with both their gross motor skills and their pincer grip skills.
