Hi Farmgirls,

I don't use bleach to clean or in my laundry. The other day, my hubby and I went down to the basement (our house is set up where our basement is the main way we go in and out). As soon as we went down the stairs from the kitchen, we were hit with a strong bleach smell. Our bunny's indoor cage is down there, she was fine but when we put her to bed the night before there was no odor. She was okay, but we immediately removed her to her outside enclosure. At first, I thought it was pool chemicals, but my husband does not store any chemicals for the pool inside. It was so strong a smell it smelled like a pool store! We could not figure out where the smell came from. Finally, we realized it was the refrigerator/freezer we have downstairs. It was failing, and the smell was coming from there. I had to remove all the food to the kitchen fridge, and unplugged it. Opening the windows/doors got rid of the odor. We did not lose anything, thankfully it was not all defrosted. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else ever has this. My brother said those fumes can be dangerous. Thankfully our bunny is okay, too.

Farmgirl Hugs,
Nicole

Hi Girls,

Thank you. I was worried about the bun but she's okay. We got the old fridge out of there and all is good. It was really scary at first, and I had no idea that a fridge could do that. Krista, sorry to hear you lost so much food! That is a bummer, but I am glad you didn't have the fumes.

Farmgirl Hugs,
Nicole

Good to hear all is okay, and the Bunny is good. Good information. Thanks.

So glad everyone is okay and nothing was ruined. We recently had our freezer go out. Sadly we didn't catch it in time and lost a lot of food. We never had a bleach smell though. But ours was only a deep freezer so maybe that's the difference. Good to know for future reference for our new one.

Wow, so glad you stopped that problem quickly! Happy to hear it didn't effect Miss Bunny too! I'm a fellow House-Bunny lover! I love the idea that yours is an indoor and outdoor Bunn! A healthy girl!
