Posted a picture of my favorite chamber pot. Got it years ago. Its an extra pretty one. I remember washing and bleaching the heck out of it. Now I wonder why would anyone want an old chamber pot?

Bonnie,
I agree . . . the days of the outhouse and can under the bed were not pleasant! When I was in high school, my parents put in a real bathroom but that was after there was a domestic water system put in the area and we no longer had to use the cistern.

Oh good stars! I can 'happily say',,, I don't remember those days... lol!

Actually living at my Oma's home in Germany,,, it was a 2 story home,,, Oma and Opa rented out the lower half and they lived in the upper half,, (post war struggles)but the 'WC' (water closet) was 1 one seater and it was down stairs in the hall closet.... Looking back,,, there were 5 adults and 1 child (me) using that downstairs bathroom... With that many,,, one probably didn't have the luxuary to sit and do a crossword puzzle in the WC....lol!

I remember those days too Ceejay. But I don't remember that part as particularly good.

Well, if they're pretty I'd have one.

We lived in a farmhouse WITHOUT an indoor bathroom. We had an outhouse, which we called "Mrs. Murphy's" and when it was bath time we had to haul the galvanized tub into the kitchen and fill with hot water and take our baths in the middle of the kitchen. My younger sister and I took turns in the same bath water. One time I would go first and then next time she would go first. We didn't know any better! Dad had to haul water and it was at a premium. We had a cistern, a kitchen sink and a sink on the back porch. Went to town to do laundry.

Anyway, we all (kids) had a shortening can under our beds for night use . . . had to haul them to "Mrs. Murphy's" to empty them in the morning.

Those were the days!

What a pretty chamber pot. I have three - not so refined as yours - they're cream n/ green enamelware. One has basil planted in it - the other thyme. The third hangs on the dead tree by my deck with other cream n/ green pots/pans, tea kettles, and coffee pots waiting to be used as planters or 'garden art'.
