Hi ladies,
I need some advise. Poor, old Birdel the bantam rooster (11 yrs this spring) started sneezing yesterday and today his feathers under his wattles are wet. After searching the internet and coming up with nothing concrete, i am coming to you farmgirls for information. Looks like a respiratory illness - some sites say they will heal on their own, but always be carriers - not really an issue for me right now. Others say use tetracycline products for secondary infections. I have no other chickens right now so my only wish is to keep him as healthy/comfortable as possible until his time is up.
Should i treat with something, bring him inside till its warmer, or let him be????

According to a chicken commercial oregano added to their water takes the place of antibiotics. Other healing herbs that should be alright for chickens are rosemary, sage, and spearmint. To be on the safe side I would start with a weak tea of one or a combination of herbs.

Ok, i just added a few drops of apple cider vinegar to his water and decided to leave him in his coop with his warmth light on. I felt it and its much warmer under there than in my garage!
The last few days went from 70 degrees to about 10 degrees last night. Being as old as he is, i bet his immune system couldn't adjust easily to that big of a shift - or something like that.
Any other thoughts?
