Posted - Feb 13 2017 : 5:09:42 PM Hi my name is Bridgette. I am 24 years old and I bought my own "farmstead" in 2015. It's only a half an acre and in town but I'm allowed 4 hens which I plan on getting once I have built myself a hen house. I've been working on renovating my house with the help of my boyfriend. It's quite difficult at times to try to envision how it's going look and work in the end but I like to use Mary Jane's Farm as inspiration to keep it simple but fun. I miss living on a farm but I hope one day I can have one of my own. Thank you.

Posted - Feb 22 2017 : 4:31:24 PM Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes! I plan on getting Buff Orpingtons. My mom has had good luck with them and they seemed like rather consistent layers. I found out my boyfriend is allergic to feathers so it looks like I'll be getting no help from him when it comes to mucking. I love living in Michigan. My family has at least 7 generations of farmers in the area so I have to say it runs in my blood. Christy925 Central Lake is indeed near Traverse City. We are the home of Armor Express the nations's 3rd largest manufacturer of bullet resistant vests. We're a big supportive community for our military and police officers.

Posted - Feb 18 2017 : 04:36:43 AM Welcome Bridgette! Michigan here also. I think Central Lake is up in the Traverse City area. Beautiful up there. I'm from Midland, home of Dow Chemical. Our city is lovely with lots of community activities. However, we have a horrendous Heroin problem...sad.
My grandparents used to go to Atlanta, MI to buy Christmas Trees. They sold them on their farm for 50+ years. I love being from MI :)
