I can't resist sharing this photo of a button box I made. My mother has always had a button collection, and as I child I loved going through all the buttons. So, I decided to start a collection of own and thought it would be nice to make something to keep them in.

Of course, I had to apply for the Buttoned Up merit badge. What do you keep your button collections in?

Greetings Joanna: Your button box is so nice! I also love buttons and have my Grandmother's Louis Sherry chocolate tin box she used as her button box, then my Mom used it. I have many many buttons in tins, glass jars and baskets. I am looking forward to working on my Buttoned Up Merit Badge!

Thank you, Nicole! Vintage buttons are fun. I have a few from my great-aunt that I think are pretty old. Sometimes I think that it would nice to know who exactly wore them, on what outfit, and for what occasion. But, of course, that were my imagination can be exercised!

Love the box! Good job. Mine are in a big mason jar. I like the bowl idea, too.

I used to love going through old buttons, in a big, old Cool Whip bowl my mom kept them in when I was a child. What I wouldn't give to have those. She threw them all away when she moved from the old house. That was thirty years ago. Those buttons would have been sixty to seventy plus years old now.

Have you seen the cute new but vintage style buttons at Joann's? I could spend an hour on that aisle alone.

Good job on a beatiful box!

Farmgirl Hugs,
Nicole

I love your box Joanna! I've decorated all kinds of boxes since I was a little kid.
I keep my buttons in several containers: I have two tins from my mother. (She kept her buttons in them.) I also keep them in canning jars. (according to color)
Can you believe many times I still cannot find just the right button when mending?)

I have mine in baskets, but I have to keep them in a drawer or they'd get dusty. I love your box because it's covered. What did you use for the base?

Thanks everyone! Yes, Grace, I used an old denim skirt for the outside and lined the inside with pink fabric from an old top. I like recycling!

Joanna, good job on your pretty button box. I inherited my grandmother's button box. It was a large chocolate candy tin.

You did such a nice job fashioning your box! I have mine is glass bowls on a shelf... I adore the bowls, but they are super fragile, so rather than continuing to use them in my kitchen, I moved them into my sewing area :)

Beautiful box! Mine are in a circular tin. I'm not sure how old the tin is, but it looks old.

What a pretty box. My grandma had a box too. We kids loved playing with them. Nice tradition to start.
