Hello, I was wondering if anyone has made toothpaste with anything other than baking soda? I was concerned about the abrasiveness of using that daily on my teeth, or is it the best after all? Thank you.

Coconut oil is good. I have found a neem oil toothpaste that I REALLY like, though I think that I may try to make my own as that might be less expensive in the long run.

I brush with baking soda and rinse/gargle with straight peroxide. It does foam up but I don't leave it in long as it can damage the enamel on the teeth.

I found a gentle technique for whitening. First, put lip balm on to keep lips from drying out. Then mix 1 teaspoon of water and 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide together and hold in your mouth. DO NOT SWALLOW! At this point I hop in the shower. Hold the mixture for up to 5 minutes. It will foam and you may have to spit a portion of it out so you don't explode your mouth ;) When you get out of the shower, brush with a wet toothbrush (nothing on it). My husband uses this mixture with a drop of tea tree oil in it for his inflamed gums. Most dentist will tell you that using toothpaste is not necessary, just the act of brushing cleans the teeth. But dipping the brush in a minty solution makes the job more pleasant. I also keep a shot glass in the bathroom and will put a drop of peppermint oil in it and add a small splash of water. I just dip my toothbrush in it and then rinse with the leftover "mouthwash".
